Hello everyone!

Hello I am Nina and I had a male sphynx cat when i was younger and single I absolutely loved and was a joy to share life with.

Now decades later with a family on my own and no pets (frankly I am just not a pet person.. i am not even THAT of a cat person I find sphynx personality to be just so unique that it cant be put down simply as a pet or a cat...

Anyway... my heart started to ache for having presence of this loving and inteligent creature as part of my family. So i made an account here to take joy in readinf about your sphynx's and see their pictures etc.

I also found myself in a bit of dilemma pickle... my Wolfgang (he had majestic strong presence xD and was a tad bit insane too) had a lot of issues with his teeth and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (
I remember vet forbade us from taking him on a flights as he was worried his heart might not have handled it. Now i live acros atlantic ocean from where i once was and at least 1 year long flights would be necesary for my new cat.) Also frequent vet visits due to the dental issues were costly then (but i was single so all my salary vent into his care. He stil had lot of teeth issues even thought i fed mostly raw diet and i cant imagine now having such a high cost of frequent vet visits).
So that have me wonder if there r some breeds without sphynx predispocitions but have sphynx like personality? I read balinese? Oriental short hair and devon rex? Or are they just truly ireplacable?

@niniel , Hi Nina, welcome to the lair family. Wolfgang sounds like an amazing boy with a great mum . if you have any pics of him please share. He only knows your eternal love. bless you to keep your heart open to love. My mom had a balinese... she did not have the personality of my sphynx, her balinese had personality of siamese I grew up with.

there is never a guarantee of not developing HCM , teeth issues etc. You can check for reputable breeders and ask about if they routinely HCM scan, DNA test for things.

I know some members with Devon Rex and Peterbalds (Donskoy) . I read Rex's are prone to HCM too like sphynx.
you can read up on .

jump in and enjoy this fun friendly bunch. here are some great threads

Hi Nina
At what age did Wolfgang grow wings? And start having teeth problems?
. I am a mom to one boy and touch wood he is healthy except for a ex problem of having a snotty sinuse cavity. But he is great. A few of my friends have travelled with their Sphinxes on flights. Mine will eventually do a 36 hour flight when I return home as I am an expat living abroad. Thank goodness incabin flights for pets is becoming a thing worldwide.

Welcome to our group I too love reading stories about everyone’s cats getting up to mischief
