Hi everyone,

I just got my boy a week ago and have a question: the breeder told me it is ok or even necessary to put baby shampoo on my cat when i wash him. ( of course I rinse it off with clear water afterwards)
Now my sister, is a vet assistant and said NOT to do it as he could lick it off!

What do you guys think?

It's perfectly normal and very suggested to use baby shampoo on your sphynx. Most of us DO use baby shampoo and baby washes to bath our sphynx babies.

If you are rinsing off the baby shampoo, how can there be a problem? Tell your sister that your cat can even lick himself after being bathed in a pet shampoo! What's the difference? LOL

I find the baby shampoo makes my boys smell yummier, but the baby wash rinses quicker. Your call.

Good luck with your new baby.

...and one more thing: baby shampoo is certainly not dangerous for your sphynx even if he licks himself after he's rinsed...it IS used for human babies and they suck their thumbs after being bathed at times! :)

I would use baby wash instead if shampoo specs illy if we talking Johnson and Johnson but the shampoo won't kill him but I personally wouldn't use Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo on a baby I studied hairdressing when I was younger I won't mention what we used that shampoo for!

I agree with above, make sure it is wash and not shampoo. But it is perfectly ok to was your baby in baby wash. I have been washing Akali in Johnson and Johnson the whole time I've had her, and I plan to wash my new kitt in it too. I works great, and as long as you wash it off, it wont harm them.

I agree about using baby wash, not shampoo. It's less harsh and made for skin, not hair :Wink2: Just don't ever use baby powder on your boy!

Good luck with bath time!

I prefer Earth Bath's cat shampoo. It treats my kitties' skin more nicely. I used baby wash before picking some up, though. I think it smells like cherries?

Baby shampoo gives them such a sweet smell after. I love it. I once used cat shampo on Graddy and he was flaky and gross. I threw it away immediately. I don't use Johnson and Johnson's anymore because they still test on animals which, as a vegan, I find disgusting but my bio baby shampoo is amazing.

You want to use a baby shampoo or baby wash....It's highly recommended her on the forum. I use baby wash (all natural) and baby wipes for in-between washes. Have you read up on all the other stuff you need to maintain your new baby?

We use Aveeno Oatmeal baby wash on both our girls and I think I'm much more comfortable with it as its "tear free" so I know its gentle even if some should drift toward those large, luscious, lemon shaped eyeballs of theirs!!!
