Isis or Iris?

Name that kitten (female)

I found a wonderful breeder in Oklahoma, I will be picking up my baby (female) November 23rd. I went with a female kitten by the way. Now for names for my little girl. I have 2 picked out I really like..

Number 1. Isis (This famous Goddess has so many different aspects, her most important roles are as Goddess of life and magic. Isis’s name comes from the Egyptian word aset and means "she of throne" in other words the Queen of the Goddesses.)

Number 2. Iris (Goddess of the rainbow and messenger to the Gods. Her name means rainbow in her native language.)

So what do you think? She is a tabby and beautiful. (Of course I think so). ;)

I would totally go with iris because of her tabby stripes, like a rainbow!

Both names are pretty, I would go with iris because the flowers are graceful and elegant - like a sphynx. :)

I like Iris as well for the above reasons and I have seen a couple of Isis' on here and recall an Iris....but both are beautiful !

I like Iris it is a beautiful flower with a beautiful meaning and you can even plant some in your home as an extension of her they come in many many colors from pale to deep plus Isis has been done many people name Sphynx greek mythology names. I had a Isis (she came to me 2 yrs old already) i renamed her because it is a more common name.

Well, Snowwhite, you know that I had to be different because when you asked me, I told you "Isis". LOL And that was way before I came here to see everyone else saying, "Iris".

Nope, not at all. I'm not one to follow everyone else once I've made my mind up. Hehe! Actually, I detected some disappointment on your end as one by one members posted, "Iris". I know you like things that are different. LOL

You rock! And, you read me well. I was a little sad, but I did ask for everyone's opinion. :) I guess it's not as rare of a name as I thought. Lol

Hahaha! Yes, you asked for everyone's opinion as in suggestions. The bottom line is that it's your kitty and you have to love the name and be comfortable saying it all day long. LOL It's up to you obviously. :)

I'm a little afraid of the name, "Bast". LOL Just in case you get fed up one day while your kitty is being really bad, you might extend that name, "Bast__d"!

Fear not, I wouldn't do that. LOL. Bast is out though. I know I have to be comfy with it. It's just hard to pick a name. How did you pick yours? Did you name before you got (picked out) your kitten? I am just picky I think. But, the name last for 35+ years (I hope). The oldest was 34. I would like to beat that please. ;)

I like Isis, that was going to be Emma Leigh's middle name, but Leigh just stuck :D

Congrats, no matter what you name her, she is cute!!!!

When I knew that it was time to search for my first sphynx, the name "Liam Grayson" immediately came into my head. I loved those two names. Then I realized that I MIGHT want a second male sphynx, so that's when I knew to just name my first one Liam unless he was a blue point, then he would be gray...and I'd have to go with the name "Grayson" as he'd be my gray son!

So Liam was my first guy.
Grayson is a blue point or mink, idk, thus his name.
When I was going to get Simon, I came up with a number of names I liked. I fianally narrowed it down to two and went back and forth constantly. Once I met Simon the second time (he was then about a month old), I just knew he was a Simon! :)

Now with the female I'm getting towards the end of this month, I had a huge list of names. I wanted something different but all the names on my list were just not exciting me. My husband and daughter helped and we all came up with the name that I originally chose. Yet everytime I'd say it out loud, it just didn't have the right ring to it.

So I sat here trying all those names all over again and then I suddenly realized (not that I didn't already know this), that the female is from the same mother cat as Liam, Grayson and Simon so she will be their sister (or at least half sister). AHHH, so it hit me ... her name has to be, "Sissy"! I LOVED IT! So did my daughter and husband. :) :) :)

When the right name comes to you, you will know. You might not even know until she's home with you.
