Jack was diagnosed with HCM

I am devastated We had Jack scanned for HCM, on Monday (he just turned a year old on 12/24). We chose to have the scan done, based on the information I learned on this site. I really didn't think we would receive this terrible news. I have to bring him in tomorrow for a blood pressure check, & then he will start a medicine called Diltiazem. The scan showed "moderate HCM," which scares me because he's only a year old, & it's already at a moderate level. I'd appreciate any info from anyone who has been through this. Please keep Jack in your prayers.

Good luck, hopefully with the proper treatment he can still have a great quality of life. If he wasn't showing any signs, and you had him scanned as prophylaxis , that is a good thing!

So sorry to hear about jack. Just follow the prescribed meds, cats diagnosed with HCM can live very long lives! Lots of love helps!

I agree with Heather---I am so incredibly sorry for your Jack, but so thankful that you found out early enough to start him on meds--if you had waited until he had symptoms, it might've been so much worse. Get him sstarted on his meds and with your love and our prayers, hopefully Jack will have a long, and love filled. quality life.

I am so sorry. I understand. My sweet Ash has HOCM. It is good that you found it before Jack started showing symptoms. As they others said, with the proper meds and keeping on top of it, he could still have a lot of good time left. Ash is doing well and is still symptom free almost three years after diagnosis.
