This is very interesting to me! Here we use Ketamine in combination with Domitor for short surgical procedures as the domitor can be reveresed almost immediatly. (I had a very sick cats years ago that was luckily given this combo for x rays, he started crashing and they could immediatly reverse it, my friend who was also a vet nurse at the time told me, poor girl!)
And yes, we use propofol for major surgeries.. I know propofol had some negative press here years back though as in people, some women were waking up with a feeling that they had been molested under surgery. I've had some major surgery myself this year but as I am a complete needle hysteric (phobic isnt a strong enough word!) I have been having gas inductions.
Anyone else heard this about propofol?

Good for you Candys for standing up for what you want! My vet was hesitant at first as well, when I was booking Priscilla's spay. He told me that in his 12 years, he had only had 2 cats die whilst using ketamine. He is not experienced with sphynx and we are both learning as we go, so I explained the HCM/heart concerns with this breed, gave him some literature and asked him to consult with his peers and research. By the time I saw him the day of the surgery, he said he had done research and that he would be using propofol instead  and in future with Priscilla, Rupert & Orion. I was very happy that he is willing to work with me and that's why he's our vet.
