I agree, Pbinky...that's why I'm on the diet that I'm on now. Not only do I want to lose the 40+ lbs I've gained, I hope to break my addiction to fast food and other unhealthy food items FOR GOOD. The diet I'm doing right now requires me to eat ONLY organic foods, including meats and fish, and to stay away from chain and fast food restaurants. Since I'm learning to live without the crap, my cats will have to also...LOL!

No, No, No. The film has nothing to do with whether or not fast food is good for you or how many pounds you will put on. Its about the treatment of the ANIMALS, the WORKERS in the slaughter house where your 'delicous' KFC comes from. It's horrifing to say the least. It's unsanitary and MANY, MANY sick animals are sent to slaughter (and 'sent' is not exactly the correct word, rather they are thrown, kicked and horribly mistreated) and then end up in the food you eat and the food you serve to your family.
It's a really important film to watch.
Oh and i totally applaude you for going organic. You know you can make much more delicous "fast food" at home. I make a mean burger and my fiance makes some really yummy french fries : )

I just thought that because we are ALL ANIMAL lovers, you would understand and want to know what you're eating.

Much love to everyone,
Monica, Pbinky, and The Skinner.

I watched the movie last night and I cried my eyes out.
I have no problem with animals being killed for food but I dont want them to suffer before that.
I have made a choice.
Even though I live in Denmark and we dont have slaughterhouses of that magnitude I have desided to find out where my meat comes from and how it was raised before I buy it.
And if they only have standard meat. Ill go vegetarian that night.

It made me cry too. my stomach turned as i watched. I live in Canada and our food supply is different but not perfect either. In my household, we only buy local foods and organic as much as possible. For meat and dairy, we are extra vigilant in finding out where our foods are coming from.
Thanks for watching the film. I think that if we all become aware, and responsible; we could all slowly dismantle the Food Giant bit by bit.

I don't think I can personally watch the movie (I'd never stop crying if I did), but another reason why I went organic is because of the impact factory farming and slaughterhouses have on the planet and also because of the inhumane way animals are treated in those institutions. I have no desire to support the FDA and the big industry food companies who have set out to destroy animals, our environment, and human health all for the sake of big profit.

With that being said, Pbinky, I don't think that my desire to regain my health and my figure are insignificant reasons for wanting to eat healthier. Big Pharma and the food industry have played a big part in destroying my quality of life during the past few years. I spent the past three years being crippled by debilitating chronic fatigue syndrome, adrenal fatigue, depression, and various other health issues. This has had a HUGE impact on my health, on my relationships with my significant other and loved ones, on my productivity at work, and most importantly on my self-esteem. I almost lost my job and my relationship with my BF because of my weight gain and health issues! I haven't felt much like a human being for several years and I don't think being at my present state is what God has intended for me and my life.

God also never intended for man to eat genetically modified foods laced with hormones and chemicals. I think it's time for all of us to support local organic farming and natural, humane ways to raise and slaughter animals.

Thanks for the book list! You can never have too much info!
I agree totally about the impact on the planet as well. The list of reasons to go organic or at best local is endless.
I'm so sorry you have/are suffering so much. A while back i studied holistic nutrition and it sounds like you are on the right tract of getting well and getting your life back. while you are in this transition the pounds will fall off.:ThumbsUp::ThumbsUp:
i understand what it's like to be unwell, i have a dibilitating neurological disorder and i'm literally a toxic dump of drugs. i take a handful of pills 3x a day and that is on a good day. if i don't eat well, i can barely get out of bed.
We feed our cats, which we love like they are are own children, top of the line food...i just think we should do the same for our own bodies!
I hope you are beginning to feel well!

Thanks, Pbinky! Yes, thanks to the excellent care I've received from my doctor (a well-respected M.D. in town who combines both traditional and holistic medicine) and my own positive lifestyle changes, I've seen great improvement in my CFS, adrenal, and depression symptoms, especially within the past six months. I went from taking seven different medications to now only two (one for my thyroid and one for my adrenals). I'm no longer taking any antidepressants for the first time in years! My blood pressure has gone down, I'm sleeping better, and I no longer have reoccuring skin problems and infections. I went from hardly being able to get out of bed each morning and colasping into bed each night to working at full productivity at work and having much more energy throughout the day.

The only thing I haven't seen much improvement in yet is my weight, which is why I'm now on a doctor-directed protocol. I just started the diet this week and hope to see the pounds come off soon! The diet requires me to eat only organic foods (in small amounts) and use organic products. This diet has been successful for many people who have failed on many of the conventional diets out there.

I'm sorry to hear that you have a neurological disorder that requires you to take so many medications. It's a good thing for sure that you and your spouse are eating well and applying sensible habits to your life. You're right....we do take such good care of our cats and we deserve to take equally good care of ourselves, too.

I'm a big animal lover too and I hate how animals are treated in the conventional slaughterhouses. It bothered me so much that I attemped to be a vegan for a few months (which my doctor chastised me for, as he says my particular metabolic make-up requires me to eat a high-protein, low-carb diet). I make it a point to purchase only poultry and meat that are organic and humanely raised, and fish that is wild-caught only.

You've probably seen this video already, but it's a good one :

I had a craving the other night yes. But I'm not saying fast food is good for you or that I eat a lot of it, or that the animals are tretaed well. I've seen a lot of bad things about how the chickens are kept and slaughtered for KFC and I DON'T agree with it at all. I know there are better foods out there and I normaly will cook. I was just feeling lazy and had a bad craving. Thats no excuse I know. But I do care about animal welfare and and I do try to be very healthy and stay away from those places.

I know that craving. There were no attack from my side. :) I don't even know if I can keep my new resolution to only eat animals who have been treated right. So far I even have to buy new pasta due to the eggs.
But right now... If there was someone knocking on my door telling me I had won a years supply of Burger king or McD, I think my good intentions would be forgotten.
But as long as I have to pay. I can stay away.

That's okay, Sam, no one was trying to lecture you. No matter how diligent we are about our diets or how badly we feel about the welfare of livestock, we all succumb to the siren call of the fast food drive thru from time to time. I personally love Chik-Fil-A chicken (not sure if you have them in England) and McDonald's french fries. I'm just choosing to abstain from it for now for my health's sake.

I live in a city, well it's classed as a city but it's tiny, more like a town really! We just have a small KFC, Subway and a Mcdonalds, thats it. But the KFC just sells chicken and fries, they don't sell onion rings or anything like that! Maybe I'm missing out? What is Sonics? We don't have that here. This is a great thread. LOL

On another note, I think this is the first time in a while I am glad I live in a fast food nation because we have Sonics.
Sonic Drive-In is a fast food place, but really is better describes as a drive-in because they aren't that fast. There are car hops on skates and a drive-thru, as well. They have the most delicious food known to my belly and they are probably a big reason for my belly, too!
They have the usual burgers, fries (or chips for you, Sam!), and shakes. They also have tots and corn dogs and the sweetest onion rings. I don't even like onion rings usually, but I can't get enough of theirs! They have coneys, too, but I don't eat hot dogs. The best thing (besides the onion rings!) is that you can get anything on their menu any time of the day, so you can get a texas toast bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich at 10pm or an order of chicken strips at 7am.

I've been so sick of fast food lately (been running late for work for the past couple weeks), but now I kinda want some of those onion rings! Maybe when I get off work...

Boy oh boy, I never expected this thread to get so much attention! You did well to avoid the temptation of onion rings!
