I have a 3 month old Sphynx kitten (I got her yesterday, still new to owning a cat) and today when she woke up from a nap she sneezed about 10 times in a row. I've heard of possible respiratory problems in very young kittens, but the breeder I bought her from only sells 12 weeks+ kittens as I've heard is best.
As a new sphynx owner I'm just worried about her, she may actually be fine but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask some advice from more experienced Sphynx owners.
Right now she's stopped sneezing and is sitting on my lap purring, but I've noticed she tends to sneeze a lot after waking up or in between naps. Maybe she's just adjusting to her new home?

@Wyfwulf Congrats! We often see these babies stress and develop URIs upon going to their forever homes. Here is a link to a thread about a great booster you can use called L-Lysine http://sphynxlair.com/community/threads/l-lysine-for-sphynx-cats.28531/

I am assuming your contract includes a necessary vet visit within a couple of days you bringing your baby home. They might recommend an antibiotic if they diagnose a true URI...just know the breed often does not do well on the antibiotic called Clavamox so you might press for another antibiotic. Just get things checked out and I am sure your baby will be on the right track.

Welcome! If its just a sneeze here and there and its not accompanied by runny eyes and a runny nose I would not be too concerned. A bit of Lysine mixed her food may help. :)

@Wyfwulf , welcome to you and your little one! Love to see pics and look forward to your journey with us!
Have you decided on a name ?

Great advise given . I definitely would do a new kitty vet check for a good base line and build good communications with a vet. Good info on Clavamox too-

** also, pet antibiotic medications in the USA are often free of charge at you local grocery pharmacy, Walmart etc.. You can call ahead and have one picked out bring the number with you to the vet visit in case you need antibiotics.

Ask Vet to call it in to your pharmacy of choice- my local Publix grocery store pharmacy will also make it up in a liquid formula suspension if I ask and also give a little applicator with it - Free! (It's about $27 at the vet)
Wish I knew this years ago so wante to pass it on..

Very excited for you and your little one! Hope to see pics !
Keep us updated!
Welcome!

Thank you everyone for your replies! I will definitely look into L-Lysine. She does not have a runny nose or eyes so it doesn't seem very serious which is a relief.

I do have a few pictures of her :) her name is Sansa.

@Wyfwulf the same thing happened to me. I brought my baby home last Thursday and by Friday he was sneezing and his eyes were runny. I contacted the breeder and he told me to give the L-Lysine a try that it could be stress/allergies. I have been giving it to him everyday and yesterday it didn't seem as bad. He is eating good and running around playing like nothing is wrong.

@Wyfwulf I talked the people i got Loki from today and he suggested taking him on to the vet since his eyes were still runny. Glad i did he thinks it is a viral or bacteria infection. Gave Loki antibiotics to take by mouth and to put in his eyes. The above info from everyone is exactly right from what my vet said. So glad I joined this group!

Hello, hello. Welcome to you and Sansa. A maintenance dose of lysine is highly recommended (i.e. 250 mg twice per day in food), and it certainly doesn't hurt to be feeding 500 mg twice per day when there is sneezing, runny eyes etc. I had Max on a dose of 500 mg twice per day for the first couple of months, and it certainly has not hurt him. He had some sniffles and a very mild URI when he first came to us (also 12 weeks old). But the lysine really helped.

By the way, Sansa is absolutely beautiful. I would love to see more photos whenever you have the time. Again, welcome. So nice to have you here.
