Hello, it's been awhile and I am requesting advice all last minute too! Tonight is Sashimi's yearly appt. got moved up as you see.

She is just shy of 12 months old. I have a few questions about shots. They want to give her a distemper? and then they want to know if she is getting a feline leukemia shot, does she really need it and am I causing problems for her health wise? is it risky to get the leukemia shot?

She has also been having lose stools again, then the occasional solid poo. What should I ask the vet?

Anything other questions I should ask for the soon to be 12 month old?

Sorry for the quick post!

My personal opinion as a technician at a holistic animal center, if she doesn't go outside, she doesn't need it. If she is coming into contact with other cats that do go outside, maybe not a bad idea. But, I wouldn't give them both at once. 1 vaccine at a time. 2-4 Weeks apart.

It's my understanding that it can be risky to get the feline leukemia shot on sphynx cats.. so long as shes not outside being exposed to other kitties there shouldn't be any reason for her to get it. If you're in contact with Sashimi's breeder I'd talk to her too, because in some cases it can violate breeder contract to get them that vaccine :Dizzy:

I think distemper is standard, at least thats what it seems like from this thread

As far as the loose poops, maybe bring a fecal sample with you for them to test for various stuff.

Hope things go well and keep us updated!

I wouldn't give the leukemia shot either. You could bring a stool sample to examine and I think your vet knows what to look for and ask. Basically if nothing health- or personalitywise has changed you should be fine.
Good luck!

OK so they put her on Flagyl for the loose bowl, since she said it was very loose, (her sample came back negative) so try it for 5 days then if she is still experiencing loose stools to give her ID for sensitive diet. Has anyone used this food before? She's not due for shots as I thought, but she checked out good health otherwise. She said the food I have her on now is good (royal canin and Nutro kitten both wet and dry) she did suggest a sensitive brand for her. Any suggestions would be awesome.

So a good day for Sashimi. Thanks again for your support!

The i/d works wonders. I've used it a few times myself. Just be careful with the transition back to her regular food. The i/d is a bland diet for intestinal health, so her regular food is much more. . ."rich?". I don't know if that's the word for it. But, you get the point. You may even be able to just do half her regular food, half i/d and see if that helps before you her regular out completely.

If she doesn't have any parasites or anything causing the loose stool, the id food could help. I have used it with succes after illness but discontinued it because the main ingedrient is grain. But it does help!

Good luck, glad Sashimi was well apart from the loose stool.
