Layla saw the vet today-Just a well check up and check on her mysterious skin condition. More bumps have popped up and the vet did a cytology of the fluid from one of the papules (sp?). There was no bacteria found, so vet thinks it's a papular eruption that may be caused by a microscopic parasite that is under the skin. She prescribed her advantage multi which is a topical skin treatment. She wants her to do 3 treatments. Has anyone used this and were there any issues/side effects? Vet said she wants to start there as it's the most "gentle" treatment and then go from there if it doesn't clear up. She said to continue use of chlorhexadine shampoo and wipes and to put ointment on any papules that erupt to avoid any secondary infections. She said it's not contagious to us or to Arlo (hopefully this is the case, but I will do more reading up on that before allowing interaction w/ Arlo for my own peace of mind!). Anyway, she's overall healthy--heart sounds good, good weight for her age (8 weeks old and weighs 2.2 lbs).

Any input on the advantage multi would be appreciated! thanks everyone!

Some cute pictures and video just for smiles

That is the definition of stinking cute in that video. She is so tiny. I don't recall anyone who used this skin treatment, but hopefully someone will jump in and share. Glad she is overall healthy. Bless your little baby girl.

@ArlosMom she is gorgeous. I hope whatever is with her skin...it heals up quickly.

I just had a thought after seeing that video above of her playing with the fish on the phone: if you have a pet stroller, take her out to the stores in the stroller and let her play with the fish on the phone. You will totally freak people out that are shopping too. LOL Just like I see human toddlers in strollers playing with Mom's cell phones to keep busy while shopping...you can do the same with Layla.

@ArlosMom so now that you think about it, Layla's mommy didn't lick her to the point of getting sores necessarily, perhaps Mom Cat was licking her only baby because something was wrong with her skin? Did you ever post pics of Layla's skin? If so, I may have missed it (I had issues not being able to get on the Lair for a while).

Hopefully others can chime in on the multi
Is this is?
Advantage Multi for Cats

I personally have not amd will not use topicals on my nakids ..so hopeful others can chime in with input ..
I know my dog years ago had a bad reaction to topical

I usually prefer change of diet and antibiotics based on individual circumstances discussed with my vet

Great news she is healthy , heart sounds good amd good weight! Yah!
All pas cross d amd healing vibes for Layla!
So stinkin cute!

Yes, @Yoda mom ; that is the stuff the vet recommended. But I am hesitant to use as one of the ingredients was linked to all of the issues with the heartguard medicine. Plus I really don't want to apply anything topical to already irritated skin. I think I will just use the chlorhexadine shampoo and wipes and see how that goes . I trust my vet, but I trust my gut more, so I'm sticking with that! If things worsen, I may even bring her to the veterinary university as they have a specific dermatology unit. I'm hoping I don't have to resort to that, but will certainly do whatever it takes to get her better. She's not itching or uncomfortable and is otherwise perfectly healthy so I'm not overly concerned.

Thanks!

@GoldHazel ; Yes, and that is exactly what the vet said when sent her photos and info prior to us seeing her yesterday. I think that is spot on! Mom's licking was not the primary cause of the issue, but was licking because there was an existing issue. Hopefully the chlorhexadine will help but if not, I plan to take her to the university vet hospital we have here in IL. They have a specific dermatology unit that I'm sure can help her.

Thanks!

Do you have a feeling that your breeder really knows what's going on?

Hopefully this all gets resolved soon. It can be so stressful on you and Layla both. Besides the fact that it's stressful enough keeping her separated from Arlo.

@GoldHazel no, I am not confident that the breeder really knew what was going on. The only time she brought Layla to the vet was for a 4week old check and never brought her back despite the vet telling her that it could turn into a bacterial infection if the mother keeps licking. Also, when I picked her up, her face, neck and head were extremely dirty. The neck area was the spot that had the most irritation and eruption.. I would think keeping that area clean would be a priority. At each bathing, I've been scrubbing to get the dirt off, but it's still there a bit. I clean twice a day w/ chlorhexadine wipes and also give a bath every few days. And she is not directly exposed to the sun although her area is set up right in front of the window. Here's a photo of her set up (had to set up a barrier so Arlo couldn't jump in from the play tower! Again, appreciate everyones input and thoughts on this!

Awh, look at her little area...that is so cute! Such a loving mommy! I hope you get the issues worked out, but in the meantime, it's so good to know you are taking such amazing care of her!
