My precious new baby got to come home with me yesterday. This is my first sphynx and I am in love with her already. I took a couple days off work to spend time with her to get her used to her new place but I am getting more and more nervous about having to leave her all day when I go to work. I am single and live alone and she is the only pet in the house. I have a nice bit cat tree, heated bed/igloo and lots of toys all over but I'm still a little nervous she will be miserable and meow all day. Anyone have any suggestions or advice for when I have to go back to work?

I really want to get her a play mate but getting two at once is extremely expensive but I am going to get another as soon as I can.

Thanks,
Tracie

@Traciea Oh ...your baby is beautiful! Some things to consider...getting a hairy baby (perhaps a rescue) to keep her company. We have 3 video cameras and we see that our babies sleep most of the day so if you invest in cameras you will see they sleep and might not be as lonely as you think. Video cams are now interactive have night vision and you can move them, talk to them and some you can even move a laser to play with them.

Leaving a radio or TV on helps, and buying things like cat trees that they can perch on and look at bird feeders outside are all helpful in keeping them engaged.

I personally love the video cameras so I can look in and see them just sunning and enjoying life.

I had a lot more peace of mind leaving them in a room that was 100% kitten proofed when we were gone. With lots of toys, perch, water, blankets, litter box, etc. Make sure she can see out of a window (get a window perch) for extra entertainment. Can also get an interactive laser toy and camera to help you look in on her :)

@Traciea you're girl is so adorable! What a beauty.
I still remember how miserable I felt when I went to work when my boys were kittens. And you know what? While I was at work feelimg guilty with my head full of all the things that could happen, my boys were sleeping!!:).
Your girl will sleep the day away and will be happy and active when you come home. If you make time to play with her before and after work, she will be okay. It's good you have some days off now to help her get used to her new home and to see if your house is kittenproof.
First workdays will be awful, for you, but you'll see everything turns out to be fine.

I've been worried too but yeah they really do sleep all day, she might look for you a bit right after you leave but will get comfy and doze off in no time and then be extra needy and energetic when you get home and act like she's been waiting the whole time when really she just had a long nap :) They always greet me with sleepy squinty eyes or sometimes don't even bother to get out of bed if I'm early. They have learned when I come home from work though and be ready at the door/the troublemaker will bolt out just to sit a few feet away from the door on the neighbour's deck and look smug.. even when there's snow.. little moron

I was the same when I got my first hit he was fine he had was bed and toys and he was fine :) he slept most of the time I think it's harder on us then them. If you can afford it and find more love in your heart for another animal you could get him a friend but I personally wouldn't if it's not an animal you would want and could live as much as the new baby.

@Scary812 have Fujikam cameras. I have seen others say they like the petcube cameras as well. The Fujikam has a wider viewing angle. I can swipe my phone and the camera moves so I can search looking for them rather than a stationary view. It has night vision and ability to talk as well.

@Traciea , @Andrea Daniel , I also like mollysmom left newbies in a kitty proofed room when I was not home -
Then I let kitties free roam when was at home so I could see what else I needed to kitty proof :)
Silk plants , Blinds, computer and electrical cords , breakables , pictures frames on the wall , floor register vents , toilet lids down , Closet doors closed, jewelry , etc

I leave tv or radio on and a couple of treats on a blankie when I leave :)

@Traciea , Happy Gotcha! She is beautiful! What is her name?
Looking forward to your journey with us and lots of pics and tales

I'm 2 weeks in with my girl and was so nervous the first few days going to work! The first week, when I'd open the front entrance to the building, I could hear her meowing at the door which broke my heart. But second week in she stopped, and was cuddled on couch under the blanket when I'd get home. She's be ok, and you'll get used to it, too.
She's so cute!

Glad to hear she has settled in. Kittens can sleep up to 16 hours a day...the other 8 they like to spend terrorizing the house at night...lol. Nice to know you are stressing less as well.

Aww she is adorable!

It is so hard leaving them alone. I live by myself as well and work nights. I still fret about her being alone too long if I go to the gym in my way home, but most of the time she greats me at the door with a "I just woke up" look about her, eye bogies and bleary eyed, lazily stretching before asking to be picked up for smooches and purry cuddles. I think she sleeps most of the night, except for maybe her 2am play time chasing my hair bands which she does when I'm home! I always turn off my power points when I leave at night though, yes, I'm a little paranoid but get worried about Rosie alone at night if there was a fire o_O

Just kitty proof your house, make sure there is nothing she can chew on that she shouldn't. Cover electrical cables, put away any wand type toys or anything with threads that might look appealing. Put away anything you don't want to be broken- they love to knock things off shelves and watch them fall, it's a great game! I also have to put any human food in cupboards- she'll happily get into my kale chips and munch them give half a chance! We had a bengal who ate almost a quarter of a loaf of bread once so that's something to hide in a safe place!

Try to relax though. I'm pretty certain they sleep most of the time and you'll love the loving greeting you'll get when you get home again, it's the best!
