lethargic kitten

Hi,

For few days now my kitty has been very lethargic and will not leave her bed unless she hears the food bowl, she will then get up have a little nibble and return to her bed. I know cats like there sleep but this is extremely unlike her and normally has a good old play and nibble on me throughout the day. I have taken her the emergency vets but not much has been give away since she wouldn't stop hissing and growling all she could diagnose was a high temp. She has been diagnosed with the corona virus recently due to having blood in her stool constantly and this has only just got under control about 2 weeks ago.

Has only got experience of corona virus relating to a lethargic cat? I am really worried and i miss my little baby following me round the house and wanting lots of cuddles.

@Lemmy : sorry to hear your kitty is lethargic. You say your kitty did have blood in her poop for a time. Did the vet test if she has amenia? That can cause her being lethargic.

My boy Toa is diagnosed with the Corona virus. For more then four months he did have diarrhea, didn't grow much nor gain weight as much as he was supposed too. And the only thing he was doing was sleeping. He didn't play, only like for five minutes and it could hardly even called playing. It was more like beating with his paw against a toy while lying down. His poop was examined and his blood. I feared the corona virus turned into FIP cause he did have a "pot belly" and high temperature.

It turned out he did have slight amenia, a chronic inflammation and a allergy for food. Together with the corona virus this made him so lethargic and not feeling well. He did get special food and now he's feeling much better.

If the vet didn't do blood or pooptests then I think it's a good idea to go back to the vet and ask for these test. Specially to test for amenia.

High temp usually means infection. Did vet prescribe meds etc? Your gut tells you something is up...seek a second trip to vet or a second a opinion. Positive thoughts are sent your way.

@Toa and Ross the vet has done poop test which is how we found out it was corona, maybe blood tests is they way to go now. She did have a set done when she got neutered but nothing came back on them. I think another trip to the vets first thing

@Catzzzmeow she had two injections at the vets one antibiotic and one pain relief. This seemed to perk her up a little then after few hours straight back to the blanket and hasn't moved much today.

Yes, lethargy is a symptom of FIP as well as many other illnesses and conditions. I would surely seek out a vet as apposed to the emergency vet (their fine for later night emergencies) to get to the bottom of the issue, hope its nothing serious.

Symptoms and Types of FIP

Symptoms of FIP vary depending upon the strain of virus involved, the status of the cat's immune system, and the organs affected. There are two forms reported, including wet (effusive form), which targets the body cavities, and dry (noneffusive form), which targets the various organs. The wet form tends to progress more rapidly than the dry form, In either case, the body condition suffers, with the hair coat becoming rough and dull, and the cat becoming increasingly lethargic and depressed.

Wet/Effusive

• Persistent and unresponsive fever
• Lack of appetite
• Weight loss (gradual)
• Poor appetite
• Diarrhea
• Gradual swelling of abdomen (potbellied appearance)
• Accumulation of fluid in the chest cavity
• Difficulty breathing
• Sneezing, runny nose
• Lethargy

Dry/Non-effusive

• Poor growth in kittens
• Anemia
• Jaundice
• Diarrhea
• Fever
• Depression
• Inflammation of various parts of eye
• Neurological symptoms (e.g., loss of ability to coordinate movements, loss of vision)

She has been back to the vets had some anti antibiotics and possible blood tests tomorrow. She is currently doing a weird thing trying to get of heights by sliding down cabinets or the sofa she wont jump of objects has anyone else experienced this? almost like she wants to get her front paws down first. She is walking fine and is normally an active kitten jumping around.

My boy Toa did slide down from heights during the time he had very bad diarrhea. Cause of the diarrhea his tummy was flaccid and he walked strange because of his tummy. He probably slided down cause the landing after jumping would hurt his tummy to much. He feels better now. He can jump perfectly but still prefers sliding sometimes. It looks a bit silly but if he's happy with it, I'm happy with it

I hope your little kitty is doing better! What are you feeding him? I only ask because some foods may cause allergies/upset tummies - especially if his diet was changed recently!

Hello everyone,

Got the results back today and my little baby has fip. The vet has done some research and is getting some medicine in to try and help the problem but as we all no fip is not a great virus to have. If anyone has any links that are helpful let me know.

I did read about a medication called "PI" given to kitties with FIP - worth exploring with your vet

"No one suggests PI is a miracle drug for FIP, but it helps. Legendre says, “It appears that polyprenyl immunostimulant improves the survival times in cats with dry form FIP. It appears to improve well being of the cats and improves appetite. This is not the final answer to treatment of FIP but perhaps a step in the right direction. An antiviral treatment in conjunction with PI should improve clinical outcome.” From the cat channel

Perhaps her symptoms are under the weather symptoms and not clinical FIP symptoms-
We all know these Sphynx get butt amd under the weather issues from time to time-

I haven't contacted person she is from @Yoda mom had her for a year now. Vet is pretty certain she has got fip as all the blood work as led to it plus she has the corona virus.
