Loss of our fluffy friend

Hello everyone,
It's been very long time since I've visited sphynxlair, we've recently lost our fluffy boy, who's been my companion for over 12 years, and been in my sphynx girls life since I brought her home seven years ago. I would like to ask you about your experiences with grieving cats, her behaviour certainly changed, she's meowing lots for no apparent reason and I just don't know what to do, is there anything you can do at all? Personally I very much doubt it but any advice will be much appreciated. Xx

@freya87 I'm so sorry for the loss you've suffered and it certainly sounds like your sphynx girl is mourning too. I wish I could offer some advise, but can only imagine that time is a great healer for cats, as it is for humans. ((Big hugs for you both!))

We have experienced loss more than I like to remember. Each time I hated how our cats could not express their loss...but I could sense it. 2 times we added a new baby closer in age to the resident cat. Other times we knew a kitten with an older cat was not the way to go. Trust your gut...finding balance in a cat home is not easy. In some cases it means adding 2 kittens who bond and the old cat finds peace.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Your kitty definitely needs time to mourn, too, though in my experience they recover faster than humans. Give her a lot of extra attention and love during this time.

Sadly I have experienced grieving pets too over the years . Some more than others .
One in particular Was distraught meowing looking all over the house for his friend .
They are in touch with our feelings .

I took extra time to cuddle . I talked to him and told him his friend got his wings and is at the bridge world . When I picked up his ashes I showed it to him and talked to him . It broke my heart when I saw him sleeping besides his buddy who was now home in spirit with us .
I added a feliway plug in and kept out their favorite blanket they shared .
I tried so much not to cry when I was around him . It was such a heartfelt time losing our friend. We grieved together . After sometime the healing began for both of us .

So very sorry for loss. Like humans cats need time to grieve and get a new balance. Extra cuddles and attention will help her through this

Thank you all for kind words and advice. I hope she'll start get back to normal soon, it's just sad knowing she's upset and not being able to do an awful lot about it.

My heart breaks reading this, I'm so sorry for your loss. Make sure you grieve together, cry together and just be there and let time pass and I'm sure you'll heal each other.

@freya87 I’m so sorry for your loss. I imagine your sphynx is feeling a significant loss as well. I would give her lots of extra love and attention. It not only will soothe her but it will soothe you as well. Sending hugs your way.
