Hello everyone, new member, long time lurker. My 6mo old sphynx got neutered yesterday and he's been having a rough time. It seemed the anesthesia made him crazy.. Bouncing off the walls crazy. I was worried he'd rip his little raisins open, so I tried to crate him for a bit to try and calm him down. I stepped out for maybe 10 minutes and came back to a bloody mess! He slammed his face into the crate so hard he scratched himself up. I feel so terrible! We took him back to the vet, and he was prescribed an as needed sedation pill along with some extra pain killers to help him relax while his body does some serious healing.
My heart just absolutely hurts when I look at him.
Some healing vibes and love vibes (or prayers if you're religious) would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to sphynxlair for you and Mortimer. Sorry to hear Mortimer did react so strong on the anesthesia. Hope the sedation pill amd extra pain killers will help him.
Sending lots of healing vibes to Mortimer and a big hug to you. I know it hurt to see your baby having so much pain.

@Taylyria hello and welcome. Mortimer is absolutely gorgeous. I'm so sorry he had this reaction and landed up hurting himself.

Put a T-Shirt on him. That makes them act a bit differently such as less active and calmer. Keep it on him just along you are home with him.

I'm sending all positive thoughts, healing vibes, love and prayers that this will soon calm down without any other problems. Please update us. But try the T-Shirt!

Unfortunately the tshirt thing doesn't stop him haha. He wears one for limited time almost everyday. He's just a crazy little monkey. However, he is sleeping on my bed wrapped up in his blanket right now.
Thank you so much!

I spray it on a flat cotton round amd lightly dab the area -
The VF formula is supposedly stronger

Thank you so much everyone! He has slept the majority of the day today, though probably because I have given him his meds. I'm trying to space out the administer times between his sedative and pain killer, even though my vet assured me (and double assured me) the two were safe to use together. He had his pain killers this morning, and when I felt he was coming out of his kitty high from that he had his seditive. He just woke up from a long afternoon nap on my bed to grab a quick snack, a drink, and a few kisses from everyone before he climbed up on my lap for mama snuggles. He's my little trooper!

Sounds like things are calming down. Hopefully he will sleep like a baby tonight....and you too! I know the stress over these guys can be huge.

Thanks a ton to everyone! Mortimer and I have really appreciated it and can feel all the love.
To update y'all, he is doing 110% better! I've decided he doesn't need the extra meds anymore, and he's gone completely back to my normal little baby. We redid our living room over the week and he has been getting himself into some trouble trying to climb on all the new furniture lol! He also hasn't even noticed that he was neutered, at least from what I've seen. (Who knows what he does while I'm sleeping lol besides trying to suck on my earlobes.) He hasn't tried to pull at the glue on his insisions - I'm very very impressed by that. No need for the dreadful ecollar or as I like to call it "the party hat." His face is also 100% healed too! It seemed he only roughly exfoliated himself, so the dead skin just peeled off within the next two days.
Thanks again for all the loving vibes and prayers.

Good to hear he is on the mend.
As I read this it reminds me of my cat Merlin. He also was over excited from anesthesia. The vet made sure to note that and keep it in mind when he had to be put under. Make sure your vet notes it for future needs. It is really important. The best to you and your boy

We put it in his file for future reference. I'm hoping he may never need surgery again but it's good for them to be informed. I also let them know that I would like him to stay at the vet until his anesthesia has completely wore off to prevent future accidents :3
