We lost our special boy Wednesday night. Lynyrd Skinyrd was my heart. He was my first Sphynx, met by chance and perhaps fate at a reptile show of all things. I had already been planning on getting a Sphynx as I'd had hairless rats that I was obsessed with and as a cat person, a Sphynx just seemed like the next logical step. He was four months old and after we brought him home, he quickly took over my life, heart, and wallet. He was an absolute menace who took great joy in getting into everything he possibly could: cooking food, cabinets, the pantry, the garbage. He also loved climbing the curtains and doing parkour around my parent's living room. Everyone he met was absolutely in love with him (except maybe the handyman that he jumped on the shoulder of who wasn't quite sure what just attacked him). He adored going out shopping and visiting all his favorite stores, snuggling with every human he ever met, and eating everything he could. We had mama-noodle snuggle time at least once daily, where it was just him and I cuddling in bed (I think I have about a million pictures of mama-noodle cuddle time from the last 7 years). If he could live in my skin I think he would. I carried him around constantly. Out of our four Sphynxes, he was by far the most velcro. When I called him mama's baby he would purr and present his head for kisses. He was a piece of my soul, and even though we were expecting his end to come sooner rather than later due to all his health issues, we weren't expecting it this soon. I know we're never prepared to let them go, but some little piece of me is still expecting him to come home, even though I held him after he gained his wings. It feels like an integral piece of me is missing. He was larger than life and even with four other cats and our pup, my house feels empty. We're probably going to have a memorial get together of all his people when his ashes come home, because we were planning a celebration of life while he was still here so he could see all of his favorite people at least one more time but he went so quickly. It was less than 3 weeks from his CHF diagnosis to him throwing the first clot and going into the ER, and only three days later he was gone. Please give your nakids and furbabies extra kisses and cuddles, and if you're so inclined, I always said 'Free Bird' was his theme song if you'd like to give it a listen. It's more fitting for him now than ever before.
