Ummmm... ooookay.

Max is currently 11 months of age. He's always had a healthy but responsible appetite. He eats four times per day (raw kangaroo, venison, and sometimes camel). I let him eat as much as he wants, and he stops when he's full. For some time he's averaged a quarter pound (110 g) per feeding -- a total of 1 lb (454 g) per day.

The last few days he's been able to eat pretty much a half pound (220 g) per feeding.

Yes, he's growing... getting bulkier and longer.

He poops about twice a day. He drinks water. He pees. He has the crazy zoomies as per usual, and also sleeps very soundly.

Is this normal for this age? I mean the food intake?

I'm a little gobsmacked by what he can consume. But near as I can tell he's not getting fat... but is growing.

@Xandria: after my episode at the vet about my too skinny and too fat boys;) I wouldn't dare to say what's normal and what's not.
My boys are 11 months also (to be strict, they're turn 11 months on september 30) and they eat each 200 gram (less then 1/2 lb) a day.
They poop twice a day, pee about 4-6 balls a day, do have crazy moments, play for hours and sleep the rest.

All the same as Max only...Max is at the moment eating per feeding what my boys eat all day:D:ROFLMAO:. Max is eating more and more at the moment while my boys do eat a little less at the moment. It's summer here and quit hot. In Canada it's also summer if I'm right? So the more eating can't be because of cold weather I guess.

But Max is growing (and not growing fat) so I think it's normal. Toa eats the same as Ross and still Toa is a little chunk and Ross skinny. So it depends on the sphynx what is normal.

But I'll tell my boys how much Max eats. I know for sure the will admire his eating capacity very much(y)

I was wondering that too because when I was researching the raw diet I saw people say they only feed around 6 oz. a day and then I saw your post saying a lb. a day but maybe his metabolism is like superman and he just burns through the calories fast.

I found that I can't be too worried about how much raw one cat eats vs your own. Mulder eats probably 1/2 lb a day, if that. I gave up trying to keep track because he and Ponzu would switch bowls constantly. I used to worry because I'd see a couple people say their kittens were eating almost a pound a day and I was like, wtf! We go through about 1lb a day between the two cats.

But I weighed Mulder last night and he's 8ish lbs (scale said 8.4 but I'd give or take .2 lbs either way). He just turned 7 months a couple weeks ago, so I'd say he's pretty on track weight wise, and he looks great o_O. Ponzu is about 11.5 lbs.

So where is Max putting all the food? lol!

when they are under a year , they eat so much more then when they are older. I don't know how many oz i feed but mine get each ( since they eat out out of the same bowl 3 times a day ) about 1 cup of raw da day and before bed they get about 1/2 cup of other treats like freeze dried or kibble that have pure protein and they are at the stage where its maintaining the weight .

@Toa and Ross -- yes, it's Summer here! He shouldn't be eating this much!!!! LOL. Max has a message for Toa: "Grow, Toa, Grow! So we can go out and cause trouble together."

@KitKat26 -- yeah, I don't think there's a typical range for food consumption. Just like humans. But it still freaks me out. How is your raw adventure/preparation coming along?

@JenFid -- Good Lord, I've NO idea what the hell Max is doing or where he's putting all that food. Hubby is like :jawdrop:. And I'm like  grow grow grow... I love big kitties. But his Daddy is big and beefy.

@assibassi -- It's good to know he'll slow down eventually. At this point I'm contemplating ordering a whole kangaroo!

I just finished my first batch :D. I only made three lbs for now and gave them their first meal. I'll post a thread on how it went with photos :)

Anyone that feeds just 6oz. a day, isn't enough. I would let them eat if
They are hungry. If you see they are getting a little more weight on
than, maybe they should, cut back a little. No matter what you feed.
Some just eat more than other's, some get fat, some don't.
Izmae doesn't eat a lot at a time. She eats little wet 3 times a day.
Plus I leave dry out all the time, she just munched around on it through
out the day and night. She is long and slender.

@Xandria you know what to do this weekend: go hunt a kangaroo (or 2)! Think woth one kangaroo you'll gave enough food for a week for Max. But maybe not, so better get 2:)!

This is a message from Toa to Max: you're really superman! I'm practicing my eating skills cause I really want to grow as big as you. And now I maybe small but I can cause trouble like I'm the nighest cat there is!!

@Xandria, Batman here looks like he "ate a small child" but looks good I was told :) he is tall and big- and eats a 22 % carb dry matter basis food- he refuses all canned and gave me stink eye over raw- he is active

My little short small stocky Toby aka baby finster- could eat two kangaroos with Max and still eat! I don't know where he puts it - (though he will not be hunting Kangaroo here in Florida thank goodness)

He eats the dry, wet and steals Macie's Halo food too-

Toby must burn off calories brainstorming his next fresh naughty adventure-

@Toa and Ross , Toa has some king of trouble competition her in the states!

hunting kangaroo !! haha !!! Sorry that is funny !! Where do you buy your kangaroo Xandria ??

I'm very fortunate to live where I do (a decent sized city). There's a meat supplier to restaurants and mootique butcher shops that also opens its doors to the public on certain hours. So I buy their kangaroo, venison, and camel. I tried elk, but Max doesn't fancy the elk for some reason. But he loooooooves kangaroo, which is a very lean protein... and it's priced less than beef. Max also likes dried kangaroo tendons for chewing on.

Oh, I think I know where the last few days Roman Banquet went!

I came home from a quick shop and my eyes started to water as I passed the bathroom (where the litter box is). I guess he's been storing it up for one big release fest! And props to Hubby because he cleaned up the box while I put groceries away. heee heee.

Now Max is racing around, meowing and.... now he's settling on my desk and proceeding to suck his tail.

Oh to be a cat!

Well, it doesn't sound like too much to me. Rosie is about 6 months and easily eats 400g a day, which I think is just over 0.8lbs! Poppy eats almost as much and she's a real skinny girl, I actually want her to eat more, but she loses interest when she thinks she's full, then Rosie finishes what she's left. They both eat four meals a day, plus they have a small bowl of cat milk and quite a few little treats, like fresh mackerel cat treats or some tuna if my boyfriend has it in his sandwiches. Rosie is still so tiny, I think she's quite small for her age so I'm trying to get her to grow a bit, too! Rosie would probably eat twice what she's given, she's got no off switch! I'd leave food out all day, but I'd be worried she'd eat too much and burst, quite seriously!
Oh and I'm also treated to at least two good poops from each of them every day!

@Xandria and @lealea I really starting to wonder what is wrong with my boys! They eat 200 gram a day and that only on "hungry days". They don't get treats, I stopped the extra dry food. So it's only the raw. And then the vet still says Toa it too fat:)!!!

@Xandria: Max will be 1 year soon. So curious who did win the bet about his weight! I sure lost big time:)

Ha! Toa is not fat! I think he's just right! And so is Ross. Honestly, with Sphynx, they all have different shapes and sizes just like we do. That's not to say there are not truly fat or skinny Sphynx, and those need a little help from us, but as long as they're healthy and proportional... it's all good.

With respect to food amounts, I'm convinced they also have different metabolism just like us. Max clearly has an insane high metabolism. Toa and Ross seem to be able to hold onto their food a little longer and make it last (it's definitely cheaper!).
