I think the title says it all. Mimi was fine when we woke up this morning, had her breakfast and was playing. My daughter picked her up and poor mimi started to fit, popped herself and went floppy. I honestly thought she had died but saw her chest rise and fall. We rubbed her and she started to meow. Shes now at the emergency vets having blood tests and oxygen. She had her second booster on Friday and was worked is the any likelyhood that this could be the cause.

Praying for a recovery and some good news, she's only 16 weeks old and I love her to bits

Mimi is staying over night at the vets, shes got a high white blood cell count which indicates an infection, they alsowant to get a urine sample from her, the blood tests are all clear apart from the count and something else is low but was told that wasnt a problem as she's a tiny kitten.

As for the vaccine, she'd had her first tricat booster before I got her so she had the 2nd booster and because I have other cats that go outside I was adviced to have, the leukemia shot, I'm not sure that that was a great decision but the emergency vet has assured me that won't of been the cause as I'm now stressing out about her having the second one in three weeks.

I'm going to be a nervous wreck when shes home, terrified she'll have another one.

Shes on antibiotics now, and happily eating and demanding attention from the nursing staff, fingers crossed she makes a full recovery

update on mimi

Mimi's home, still not 100% sure what caused her fit, blood results only show highroad white blood cell count, so shes had anti b shots and has to go to our vets tomorrow since it was emergency vets she was in.

She looks a lot better and has an appetite which can't be a bad thing.

I now need to decide whether to complete leukemia vaccine, I've tried researching online and I'm swaying towards not completing it as I think there has to be a connection to the fot, any advice will be greatfully received

Re: update on mimi

I'm sorry, I don't have any advise for you but I'm glad she is home and doing better. Maybe your regular vet will have some more information to help you with your decision.

Good Luck Mimi!

Re: update on mimi

I hope your own vet can shed some more light on Mimi's situation and will be able to give you some good advice about the vaccine.
Sure glad your baby is back home with you and acting more like her old self!

Re: update on mimi

I thought Sphynx's weren't supposed to have Leukemia vaccines? I was told that by multiple breeders and my vet. Does it say anything about it in your contract?

Re: update on mimi

No .no mention in contract, my vet thought best to do it as I have other cats that come in and out, but I said id read that they do fine without them, I'm really confused tbh. Will talk it over with the vet in the morning

I do not vaccinate mine for leukemia because they are indoors, but I work for a very busy clinic in the Houston area. We have a lot of cats that come to see us that go outdoors. We mostly use intradermal leukemia vaccines but have inj available for some cats. Usually the reaction can be a cancerous lump later in life with the injectable or anaphylactic reactions soon after the vaccine which is very rare. In the hundreds of cats we vaccinate, I have never seen one react with a seizure and that includes dogs as well. I would definitely talk it over with your vet and if your uncomfortable boostering the vacc don't, but I'd says it's less likely that the vaccine caused it. I'm so glad she is doing better and I sure hope she never has another scare like that!

I don't do the leukemia shot either, but none of mine really go outside. I pray that Mimi gets totally over whatever it is and that she never has a repeat incident. I would've been terrified! Poor little Mimi--these poor little things can be so fragile. Sounds like you're doing all the right things and are being a good advocate for her. Please keep us posted.
Hugs,
Susi
