Yesterday, Marcus finally got the relief he needed after having severe gastrointestinal issues for a year or more. The poor boy had so much diarrhea, that it was a wonder that he survived so long with it. A combination of steroids and antibiotics kept him going for a while, but he kept losing weight, even though he ate a lot of food. But he couldn’t have his beloved raw chicken meat or cheese treats, which would make him even sicker. So Bob did some research, and finally agreed with me that it was time. The vet came, and Bob held him as he finally gained peace. He was buried in the backyard that he escaped into every chance he got. There is a large hole in our home right now, and Cleopatra and Foxy are feeling it. I’m alternating between sadness and relief that we don’t have to see him struggle any more.

Marcus was born in Las Vegas on April 1, 2014. He was Cleopatra’s pesky little bro, with the nickname “Stinky Markie.” They competed for food and laps, battled a lot, but I would often find them sharing a bed. Markie wasn’t the smartest cat, but he loved traveling, going for walks, cuddling his daddy, and running obstacle courses. He was one of our Sphynx Ambassadors, introducing countless people to the breed, along with Cleopatra, as they went on their many adventures.

Mr Marcus Antonius Anubis, you will be missed, but never forgotten. You gave us 12.5 years of silly love.

Sleep well our little prince.

Gulp…I am so sorry to see this news. He brought so much joy to into your home and hearts and we enjoyed all of the stories you shared with us over the years. I am happy you were able to make the decision and let him have peace and no pain. Fly high sweet boy.

Thank you for the kind messages and support. It’s so frustrating to watch our amazing companions grow old and struggle. This decision was so very hard, especially for Bob, who spent most of Marcus’ life with Marcus behind his computer as he wrote his books. For the last year, Bob stayed up fairly late to make sure Marcus was sleeping soundly and wouldn’t try to get us up during the night. Markie was telling us in so many ways that he was really sick.

Now we can remember the fun times, knowing that he isn’t struggling to keep food down, dealing with unbelievable diarrhea or crying as he was trying to stop the pain in his belly.

I am so sorry to see this. I know your hearts are very heavy. We love them so but their pain is real and what courage it takes to be able to give them the peace they need out of that love. Let that comfort you in sorrow.

I know we will all miss Marcus as he imprinted a place in our hearts. I am glad you became Markie’s voice and sent him to peace. The stories were both a mixture of his delightful personality and your love for him which will never die. We had all looked forward to Markie’s travails….his escap-aids and other funny transgressions.

Hugs to his family, both human and feline.

RIP Marcus.
