Must be doing something right!!!

After our weekend Petsmart adventure, I texted the breeder we got Elvira from a pic of her taking a sleep on me. I also posted to Facebook some of the pics I put up her of her napping in the pink bed.
I didn't think much of it, I just promised the breeder (from now on I will refer to her as "C" so I don't get into trouble for mentioning her by name and its shorter and easier on me to type!) that I would keep her updated on El's progress, and share pics since C went through all of the initial worrying about my baby before she was ever my baby.
C went through the eye gunk with the Terramyacin ointment, not just on El but on her 4 litter mates as well. She went through El's brother refusing to eat anything but wet food, not the kibbles...You get the point.
Well today, I got the NICEST text from C thanking me for keeping in touch, texting her pics of El as well as befriending C on Facebook so she can access El's albums anytime she pleases. C said that only me and the one seal pointed boy's forever family have been keeping in touch. She went out to say 3 of El's litter-mates she hasn't heard from their forever homes so she's happy El is somewhere happy, fat, and spoiled AND that we're pic crazy in this house so she can see El's progress!!!! Which is also good because C's 2 year old son was upset when the baby cats left his house for their forever homes, so now C can show him how good El is doing!!!
Whew!!!! I must be doing something right

You know, I think that says a lot about you and your breeder. I know that if I were to breed which I never will, I would want to know that "my" babies were healthy, happy and cherished.

I strongly feel that this is a sign of a great breeder. Also one who will take them back in any circumstance if thing go to crap in your life and you can't provide for your baby.

Actually, its a clause in my contract with C that if me or my husband (he co-signed) are unable or unwilling to provide for Elvira any more that we are to notify her first and foremost, and that she will take possession of El within 72 hours of the notification, unless we make a second notification to tell her that we're keeping El.
I can't believe she actually had one returned to her on the basis that he was "unbondable" like how in the world is any Sphynx unbondable? He was from last year's litter, and my mouth popped open hearing that.
After El gets her next round of shots and possibly her spay we're sort of planning a family reunion with her parents. I think it'd be neat to see how they'd react to the baby that they raised!

I like when a breeder has a great contract, but I often wonder how many contracts are broken. Lots of people live a great distance from their breeders and probably think, "Oh they will never find out if I don't get a check up, declaw or sell the cat."

I do realize some things you have to provide proof of or you will incurr a larger cost, but you never know. The breeder I am considering insists on staying in touch and WILL check up on you. She will even go so far as to retreive the cat if she is not happy with its placement or care. That is why she only sells within a certain area or to people she trusts 100%.

I'm not sure, our contract seems pretty iron-clad. We have to get her spay'ed between 6 and 12 months. If she were to get prego even accidentally we'd incur a fine plus court costs. Elvira is micro-chipped and she is on the list of notifications in case her chip were to be scanned and the shelter can't get a hold of me or my Pete...
And she only sells to the tri-state area; only to people she trusts, only to people that have come for a visit so she can see them interact with the kits. We went out twice prior to Elvira pick up day and took the monsters along with us! It was so funny to see my husband's 10 yr old daughter with the kits because she kept trying to get us to take home the flock-coated kit but she was already reserved for a sweet older lady. :Laugh:
The 10 yr old was kind of afraid of El at first, afraid that she didn't have hair & afraid of how she looked [thats her mother's doing but that rant I'll save for another post ]
But now, everytime she's here all the 10 yr old wants to do is be with El, hold her, snuggle her but not bath or clean the potty box!!!

It really shows that someone cares when they are interested in keeping up with their babies. The lady that I got Lenore from has never once asked about her. I've tried to contact her to let her know how well she is doing in her new home, and no response.
I don't want to draw the wrong conclusion from it, but it's like she doesn't care at all. She just gave her up and never looked back. It's kind of sad, but at the same time, it makes me all the happier that she ended up here with people that really love her.

I worried that I was annoying her to the point where she wouldn't give me El.
What kind of food? What kind of litter? What kind of litter pan? Bottled or tap water? What kind of laundry soap and or fabric softener do you use on her stuff? What kind of treats? What kinds of toys does she like? Does she wear clothes yet [NO, and still NO, hates clothes]? Does she like to play? Does she like to climb [not sure what I was thinking asking this question--resounding yes]? What do you clean her ears with? Will you show me? What do you clean her claws with? What kind of soap do you bath her with?

^^^Those are all the questions I asked C before I even brought El home^^^

I think it's great he keeps in contact with you. I have kept in contact with Nair's breeder and she with me. He is over a year now and we talk as much now as we did when before I got him!

I'd never complain about too many pics--I wouldn't require a response from her, but just pass along the photos whenever the spirit moves you. I'm sure she will appreciate it. I love it when the people who own my kitties keep me in their lives that way! And there is always the delete button--I'd rather be flooded with pics I delete rather than wonder how my babies are doing. So follow your heart and send as many pics as you want. Your breeder should be very happy.

Your breeder sounds really nice. I used to worry about the overkill on the communication too. When I first picked out my kit.

Before I got Nanu I called around to the breeders every week (for a couple of hours at a time) I would be a bit apprehensive about going around AGAIN but they were always welcoming and friendly. Encouraging me to call around. They live very near me and I consider them good friends now.

Only have Nanu a few weeks but I am always texting and ringing them and vice versa. Their Facebook page always updated pictures of their kittens in their new homes.

Not so much with Rasc and Alf - not really in contact with their breeders they are a good way off up across the border.
They were very nice, but in the 7 years have never contacted me about them, a little at first about registrations and stuff . Oh and Alfie was supposed to be a boy but after having her a few weeks the vet informed me she was a girl when I took her in to arrange the 'snip' - thats why she has a boys name . So there was a bit of communication getting her papers changed. But no contact since. Mind you I am as much to blame I never sent pics or anything
Different experience though with Nanu I felt so much more involved and informed.

I also update and send pictures now and then to my breeder, she loves them and thanks me..we have no contract i think due to them being outcross sphynx. Though she told me i do have a year guarantee if something were to happen or was/got sick and i could pick another kitten out of the litter..inc a full bred sphynx.
Though they are healthy and i would never give my babies back either

Yes, you certainly are lucky. I did not find that to be the case with the breeder for Moses. It was also my first time with a breeder so I didnt know what to expect, but after reading a lot of other posts and experiences with the breeder, I was not overly impressed with the experience I had. I am glad that you and El have the support and caring experience you needed!
