My baby changed color!

Okay, so when I first brought Pebbles home from the breeder, he was 2 months about to be 3. His whole body was peachy pink but then after a month, I started to noticed his back were getting darker. It first started with being light grey and then another month later, it got darker. Even his face seem to have gotten darker. Some parts of his body are still pink, like where the shoulder blades are and under the belly. Could this be due to sun exposure? He did tan when the sun wasn't at it's peak but that was only for 2 hours and it was only once. I did read somewhere on the web that sunlight makes the pigment in the skin darker but that's due to constant exposure. Any advice?

From the avatar, it appears he is a thermal. It is quite normal for them to continue to darken.

I think I've posted these pictures a few times before. My Moses had the same thing happen. When he came home, he was very pale. You could see his blue markings very faintly, but they were not dark. he came home at the end of August at age 8 weeks, and so he did not get a lot of sun. The next summer, he got a lot of sun, and got SO dark. Now, every summer, his markings get nice and dark, like he gets a suntan, and in the winter they fade almost to his baby markings! So, it is entirely possible it is due to the sun. even just a little exposure from the windows in the spring, before the full fledged summer and going outside and Moses starts to get darker! Anyway, the first picture is him as a baby, about 4 months old. The second picture is his second winter, and the third picture is during the summer. You can obviously see the change in his markings!

The thing is, Pebbles never had any markings on his body and it is currently really cold here. When it first happened, I thought it was because I didn't bathe him thorouhly so I re-bathe him again but scrubbed him a little harder and the color didn't fade. Then I realized that he's getting darker and it might be permanent but I did stop with the hard scrubbing.

Will the colors fade? I went to the link the Admin posted below and it a lot of people posted that their Sphynx darken in the summer time and faded back to light when winter comes. My baby has gotten darker and it's starting to get cold here.

Seal or point patterned cats get darker as they age--and it doesn't fade. They start out with cream colored bodies, but by the time they are about a year old, the only place they will appear light is on the chest and belly--it's just the way they are.

I wish our breeders would tell us those minor details. YodaMan was a cream mink and when we brought him home he was all pale pink. He didn't have any other color on him but now that he is a year old he has patches of a pale reddish color on a lot of his body. I tried to scrub it off also, poor babies! Now we think it just gives him character. Enjoy your baby!

He tried rubbing more tearless kitten shampoo on Pebbles but it didn't work. He said, "Well, it looks like Pebbles has definitely changed color. Nothing we can do can we Pebbles?"

I know! Who knew they changed so much. My other 2 have been solid colour so no change x

From experience the light ones get darker and the dark ones get lighter...every day is different in the first year.

I’m in The same boat. My kitten came home cream colored and now is faintly grey with cream patches at 6 months. I tried scrubbing him down and was concerned that maybe his circulation was poor. But I feel so much better now!
