Hello from Lancashire,
This is my first ever Forum Post! and my first ever Sphynx I have always loved them and following the sad loss of my Boxer Dog my indoor cat Chip needs a new buddy.
I have loads of Questions i'm hoping you can help me with. My new Boy Gomez will arrive in 6 weeks and I need to know......
The best way to introduce him to my current cat?
How often to bath him?
What temperature will the bath need to be?
How often his ears will need cleaning?
Will I need my heating on 24-7?
If I get him a heated bed which one do I choose?
If I already have a neutered male, is it best to get him done too?
What health checks should I ask my vet to do?
How can I keep him warm in the car on his trip home?
Is it OK to have him in the garden in summer in a enclosure?
Will he get sunburn in the conservatory?
AAARRRGGGHH Too many questions!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure I will have loads more too.
Thanks for reading My post.

:LOL::LOL: Welcome to the lair...

All good questions, Lets see if I cam remember them..Yes they sunburn, I would fix him also an unfixed boy cat is NO fun. Get him a sweater and blanket and he will be fine in the car. Bath and ears once a week (thats what I do).. Did I get hem all?

Have fun, try not to worry so much. Getting a Sphynx kitten is SOOO fun, enjoy it!!

1.Best way to introduce 2 cats, Slowly introduce them.
2. I bathe mine every 1-2 weeks as needed, Everycat is different.
3.Temperature, If its too hot for you, it too hot for kitty. I use a bit warmer then warm dishwater.
4. ear cleaning, you will see, I do it every 2-3 days and after baths
5. heat - as long as the house is about 70 degrees, my sphynx is fine. If you are cold, your kitty is probally cold too. leave plenty of blenkets around so he can crawl into them and snuggle and warm up.
6.no sure on the heated bed. I have a self warming thermo liner in his bed.
7. neuter would be the best
8. Vet checks - is he cleared of HCM? There are thread on this site about questions to ask.
9.In the car, give him a sweather and wrap him in a blanket, keep the car warm. See question 5
10.I bring my cats outside. I am always with them incase of danger. I use infant sunblock SPF 70 on my sphynx. A sweather can help too. They can get sun bruned.

First: I am sorry for the loss of your boxer boy.
Second: Welcome to the LAIR !
Third: Congratulations on your new boy Gomez.
I can only give you my regimen:
I bathe my cats about every week. I clean their ears whenever I see that they are dirty. I trim their nails whenever I see they need it. The bath water is warm NOT hot.( comfortable to my touch) I keep little beds with blankets around the house and they burrow themselves under the blankets to sleep and to keep warm. ( I live in Florida, so it isn't cold here.) I do not have a heated bed. I would neuter Gomez. You don't want him spraying all over the house or howling for females when the time comes. Chip probably won't like Gomez at first, but he will slowly come around. ( Hopefully) I have a sunny screened in back porch and they love to go out and lounge around. Yes! they do get sunburned if you let them in the direct sunlight.
I am very excited for you !!! You are going to love your Sphynx ! I am sure that many others will advise you on your other questions. I just let you know what I am doing and what my opinions are. Don't forget to ask the breeder about the kind of food Gomez is currently eating. Give Chip kisses. :Kissed:

Hello TwidGomez and welcome to Sphynxlair! Congrats on your soon to be new Sphynx! All your questions can be answered here, some great answers already, do a search as well (at the top of the forum there is a search box:Wink:), you will find over 100,000 threads posts of good info here on the Lair and plenty of friends!

I'll answer a few,

Temperature: If your cold, they are probably cold. If you were naked walking around the house, would the temperature be comfortable for you?

We bath about one to two weeks, depending on how oily your particular baby gets, we do the nail clipping and ear cleaning at bath time as well.

We take our Sphynx outdoors on a leash every year in the summer for an hour or so. If you have him in an enclosure I would recommend never leave your kitty exposed too long outdoors and never alone in an enclosure. http://www.sphynxlair.com/f29/leonidas-fishing-7094/ My album has some good outdoor shots as well! http://www.sphynxlair.com/members/admin/albums/our-sphynx/

Here is a good area to start Sphynx Cat Owner Help Center we have some videos on ear cleaning and nail clipping in this area too!

I hope this answers some questions! Please enjoy the site!

One thing I will add.... if you are interested in "heated" stuff for Gomez.. we live in a cold climate too. I have 3 K&H products: a heated throw, a heated window perch and a heated bed. They are wonderful! But lots of blankies work too.....

Neon is busy taking a bath, but waves. He's the quiet one.
