Kosar passed away. He was my heart dog. It hurts so much having lost him. Like losing a family member.

We lost him overnight. One minute he was fine. We put him in the guest room to sleep overnight along with Yoshi. My husband went to check on him in the morning and he had gone. We weren't prepared for that. We think he passed away from bloat.

We buried him in the backyard. RIP my Kosar. Love you always.

I am crying right along with you. I hate to see you hurting like this and I wish I could make it better. I am so so sorry but I think getting Bob to do a portrait of Kosar is a fantastic way to commemorate his life.

I look forward to seeing it finished. Take comfort in Harley and Will, Yoshi and Ozzy and in knowing that we are all here for you any time to talk or listen.

Hugs,
Meg

If I can type through the tears, I would like to say how sorry I am. I lost my first Great Dane to the same thing and remember still how totally devastated I was. I loved Cleopatra with my whole heart and I thought I would never live through it. I had gotten her from the Humane Society. She was deaf and they were going to put her down because she had been adopted out three times and returned to them each time. They thought it was unfair to put her through another adoption. I begged them to let me try with her, and from the second I brought her home, we were instantly in love with each other. She went everywhere with me and was the best friend I ever had. She alerted me when my dryer caught on fire....she protected me and entertained me and loved me without question. We had 6 glorious years together and I adored that dog. I hope Cleopatra was amongst the welcoming party to meet your sweet Kosar across the Bridge. If there is ANYTHING I can do.....please let me know. I would like to be able to tell you some magical thing to make the pain go away, but with a heart animal, nothing makes it go away.....it just mellows with time. I could still cry for Cleopatra every day.....but these dogs have such incredible capacity to love their humans, I can't believe that such horrible grief is what Kosar would ever hope to cause you, anymore than Cleo wanted to hurt me. So try to gather up all that love you feel for Kosar and pull it close for awhile. Let it come between you and the pain until your heart can breathe again. Kosar was lucky enough to share a special love with you--and love, our sweet Elle, is everything.

It does feel like losing a child becuase we love our pets like children. We had an English Mastiff named Aslan that we lost 3 years ago at the age of 9. That is one of the downsides to the large breeds, their life span is so much shorter. Our vet told us 8-10 years and I vowed I'd never get another large breed because of that....we have a St. Bernard now. Feeling your pain...
