My kitties are turning 1 in 2 months, question(s) about new food I want to switch too

My boy and girl are turning 1 in 2 months, so I was looking into what food I want to switch them to for when they come off kitten food around their birthday. I've checked catfooddb reviews regarding wet and dry food and my eyes fell on "Farmina Prime Boar & Apple" for dry food and "Farmina Pumpkin Feline Venison & Pumpkin" for wet food (this pumpkin and venison was the top 1 wet reviewed on catfooddb, and from what I know venison is indeed a high quality protein and pumpkin can help poops?). Currently I'm feeding them Hill's Science Plan Kitten dry and wet food. But in my research these Farmina options seems like really great ones, since they focus on high quality proteine and no grains (Also 6% or 10% more protein in the dry variant than the Hills I've been giving). However I myself am new to grain free food (but from what I see this dry food uses potatoes instead of grain). So I was wondering if anyone has had experience with these 2 food options my eye fell on? From what I currently see listed in the ingredients and analysis, they seem like good options (I would say better than Hill's too?)? I at least want to try something else than Hill's, because my boy is having stinky poops.

@wesleydeman I tried N&D on my pups and kitties years ago but they had loose stools on it.. others may chime in with their experiences. each kitty is different.

I feed what works for my 3 nakids and bengal. settled on Nutrisource cat and kitten food (no recalls) and they like it, solid poos no skin issues and proplan urinary focus chicken canned shared. I am not crazy about proplan ingredients or the hills bu feed what works. no more uti's and no skin issues. the oldest now 12. they also get hills urinary hairball dry too in a small separate bowl shared daily. somewhere years ago I read the hairball formulas bcz of the fiber is good for solid poos.
they never go to the vet for any issues , so feeding what works here .

I think you will find sphynx are notorious for stinky butt. some swear by raw but not in my budget, schedule and they hated it when I tried years ago.

@Yoda mom Thanks for chiming in! Oh yeah my previous Sphynx was also stinky now and then haha. This boy a bit more. My previous Sphynx was more prone to struvite stones, so I had to have him on special food, so I didn't need to look too much into food for him. Yeah I indeed used the search box and saw for example @kauna saying that Farmina is great. But the story with your dogs that got sick I've read too yeah. But like you said each kitty is different. When I got some more time after the holidays, maybe I will do a deep dive into searching food threads haha.

Our vet recommended VetConcept after turning 12 months, we have however tried it when Osi had soft poo issues, their adult sensitive works well for kittens, too. And I can tell from my own experience this is a high quality one, Osi wasn't starving between food intakes as he usually does when he eats Josera and others

Well quite the experience I just had. My cats are doing great on the Farmina food no belly issues, I've been transitioning them slowly. But I just gave them the Venison & Pumpkin wet food, 2nd can for them this week. And to my surprise I found something hard in the food, I thought maybe some bone. After washing it, I verified it was something metal. Upon closer inspection I think it's the jacket of a bullet, so copper. In the context of venison/deer, that would make sense I think. Luckily I am quite good at noticing differences, so my cats didn't bite on a piece of copper. Faults can occur everywhere and to everyone, so since the quality of the ingredient are good and the cats are doing good with the food, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. But I'm in contact though with Farmina about this incident.

Update: The director of Farmina just called me right away after they saw the mail. I'm getting compensation, and he asked me to WhatsApp him the batch number of the can, so he can investigate this to the bottom and he will give me an update next week. I also heard a lot of sorry's from him. I think he's quite shook...

WTH…that’s crazy and kudos to you for catching this piece. I agree your fat probably wouldn’t have eaten it, but still not something acceptable. My guess is it is part of one of the machines used to make the food. I’m sure they are inspecting every inch of the equipment. Will be looking for your updates.

Yep none is safe from unexpected "gifts" in their food Taught by life experience I always mash wet food in cat's bowl to check the consistency as well.
