Hello Fellow Sphynx Lovers!
I signed on today to simply have a forum to vent and a place to connect with the possible future home of my newly adopted Sphynx, Ka. Why a "future home"? Because as much as I love our new pet, and he loves us, my husband's wheezing and coughing is making him and all of us miserable.
I've been researching the Sphynx for several months, having fallen in love with the breed at a cat show last year in my area. I lost my Afghan hound after 13 years and decided against another dog, yet I craved more inter-action than an average cat would provide.
FINALLY in our local classifieds I found an owner who had to move and part with her cat for lack of time to spend with him. She was shutting him up alone in her apartment while at work, and was looking for a good home for him with people who could give him the attention he craved. We thought we were those people, until I walked in the door with him and my husband started coughing!
So anyway, Ka is on my desk as I write this. He is with me constantly when I'm at home, and my poor husband keeps saying, "just give it some time" as he wheezes!
I love this cat, but I have to admit I love my husband a bit more, so I've now posted ads on several pet sites. For the time we have him, Ka is a beloved member of our clan, and we play with him, hug him and wrap him in blankets and love.
I was so naive to think that lack of hair meant lack of allergies! Silly me. At least I get to spend time in the presence of this unique and wonderful cat for as long as it takes to find him a home that is as good as ours for him.
I hope someone can learn from this. Please check out your reaction before purchasing a Sphynx. This is not an easy situation, from any perspective, especially Ka's.

I have Shadow he is sleeping between my legs right now. He is one of four other beloved pets that had to be put down within the last two years. They were all very old. Now Shadow is all alone except for us humans. I know he misses his companions. So do we. I am considering a companion for him. He cries even if I leave the room to use the bathroom I have to leave the door open so he can come in with me. Gail

Hi & welcome to the Lair! I'm sorry to read of your husband's allergy issues. I'm allergic to cats as well but apart from the occasional itch I do fine with my boys. Before we comitted to adopt I checked what my reaction was to sphynx by exposing myself to them and I'm glad I did because I would hate to go through what you are right now.

I hope you find a wonderful new home for this baby so he can live his life without having to move again! Good luck!

Btw it may be a good idea to post your story in the rescue section so perhaps a member here can adopt Ka.

I am so sorry to hear your husband is having problems. I'd guess he's allergic to the saliva instead of dander. I know you've probably thought of it, but has he tried an allergy medication?

I'm a stay at home mom. Are you gifting or selling your Ka. I'm interested in giving him a wonderful home but I am not in a financial position to purchase. I will however shower him with tons of love.

Thank you for your interest, and no doubt you would be a great owner. Sadly, I have to try to sell him first. I feel badly that I spent $500 on a kitty my husband didn't choose, and so I want to recoup at least most of that if possible. Right now I'm not in a great rush to give him up so I'm taking time to find him the perfect home in our area. Travel is very stressful and I don't want to put him through that.

Thanks so much for the advice, and I've posted in several places. I do want more than the forum allows for him, but that might change in time. I've got classifieds out there and will hopefully re-home him in San Diego and avoid travel stress on him, plus I could possibly visit him if he were close by.

Better news! Allergies somewhat contained so the urgency is over, which allows more time to find Ka a great home! In the meantime, he is such an amusing critter!

sorry to hear that. please provide more info about KA

Your Yoda is SO cute!
Ka is 3 yrs. TICA registered, and absolutely adorable. He has fur on face, paws and tail, but I find that endearing. He has a very sweet nature to match his sweet face.
No doubt that with time I will find him the perfect home!

MY HAPPY TAIL

I thought I had posted this news, but didn't find it. No matter...I am VERY HAPPY to announce the adoption of KA by a wonderful lady who is in my own age group. (50 something) She is driving 3 hours to pick him up, which to me shows intent, and desire...meaning he'll be totally cherished.
The ads are down and Susan will be here on Saturday!
