Hi guys,

My sisters little cat louis (18weeks old) woke up this morning and was a little under the weather we realised as he didnt want any food and as we were aware the little man hadnt had a drink all night either we instantly took him to the emergency vet to which they had a look at him and said hes fine but there something wrong with his breathing and they sent us home. we got home and managed to syringe some water however my mum came home and said we have to take him back cant beleive they sent him home (she used to work in a vets and knows that not eating and drinking is serious especially in kittens and puppies!!) any way we went back and they did a blood test that came back fine and wanted to do an xray (they said ketamine and we told them no to which the lady got a bit put out) she said she wouldnt do an xray as she didnt feel comfortable giving him isopan or something as that can affect the respiratory system. however a new vet come to relieve her and he said take an xray asap so they took and conscious xray they took a few and mangaed to get an ok one and they said he has an enlarged heart, pulmary edema (water on the lungs), and a heart murmer hes on antibiotics and diaretics weve contacted the breeder and she said non of them have any problems and the parents are fine so is a little on as its meant to be hereditory but doesnt mean it hasnt skipped a generation?!

in this household we adore this little cat and we are so so worried! we lost our long haired 18 moth old cat just over a month ago and our 2 other cats in the last year whats wrong with us? are we this unlucky? please can someone reassure us that our little man is gonna be a ok!? we love him so so much and he is such a lovely little cat with such a beautiful personality i just want him to be home and hes not even mine! hes so precious to us!

I love my sister loads and hate to see her this upset (unless its me thats caused her to be :Wink2:) i also hope its not illegal that ive hi-jacked my sisters laptop and typed this message but she raves about you guys on here! she doesnt no that this message has been written but i know that she will appreciate it! Please be ok little guy!!!!!!!!

any advice would be so so so much appreciated

thank you!

Hi Emilie's sister!
You're a good sister for hijacking the laptop and contacting us!!!
I'm so sorry for the losses you and your family have been experiencing *hugs*
You need to get water and food into him. You don't want him to get fatty liver from not eating or drinking so persuading him to eat is crucial. Even if its just plain meat (turkey or chicken) baby food, please get something into Louis' little system! Even if you have to needleless syringe squirt or eye dropper it into him, please get it in there!!!
Is he warm enough? Is there mucous crusting his poor little nose affecting his sense of smell? If there are nose crusties, can you take a warm, damp cotton ball to remove some of the blockage?
Please keep us update!!! *hugs*

Also, I found Susi's glop recipe on another post. You may want to try this as well.
"Kitty Glop" among breeders, this recipe is packed with nutrition for orphaned kittens, nursing mother cats and their babies, cats recuperating from illness and older cats who need nutritional supplementing. Some recipes call for canned goats milk; if you have it readily available it's fine, otherwise canned evaporated cows' milk works well.¹ The recipe sets up to a gelatin-like consistency in the refrigerator, and can be stored there for up to two weeks. It can also be frozen in an ice tray for convenience in serving. To serve, warm to room temperature. Do not pour back unused portions into the mix.

12 oz. of water
1 envelope Knox Gelatin
1 12oz can of whole evaporated milk (not skim)
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons plain yogurt, not nonfat

Boil the water, add the gelatin - stir well. Add the following ingredients in order, mixing well after each addition: 1/2 of the canned milk, mayonnaise and yogurt; the rest of the milk. Variations include the addition of kitty vitamins, acidophilus, and/or pureed baby food meat such as lamb, chicken, or beef. Franny adds: "I have seen variations with two egg yolks added, but I would caution against this, due to the risk of salmonella with raw eggs. For very easy mixing, you can use a blender at low speed, but I also like a bowl with a wire whisk.

**hugs again**
