My Sphynx’s behavior changes when I put her in a sweater

My kitten kiwi is 3 months old and she finally fits in her little cat sweater. I noticed when I put it on her kiwis personality changes. She’s usually very energetic and spunky, but when she’s in her clothes she’s very mellow and slow to react. She’s almost out of it. Anyone have any insight to this?

If she’s uncomfortable then take it off.

The issue is some struggle with co-ordination issues which can be problematic and may cause falls.

Misty is quite a bit calmer (in winter, not a super warm apartment) when we put her sweater on. She has no mobility issues with this particular sweater — she has had trouble with others in the past but this one is perfect and doesn’t bother her or alter her movement. Some sweaters clearly bothered her and messed with her balance, sometimes causing her to crouch and move slowly. We removed those immediately. Now, with the right sweater, I think she is simply more comfortable with a layer of protection against the cold, so she relaxes a bit. Not sure if this adds any insight but sounds possibly similar.

Yes it is normal. They do tend to calm down with clothing on. I love it when I take my little ones off he goes for a real good run around they place. Typical boy. He is used to his clothing and I always buy light fabric and a little bigger so he feels free with them on. I know he does not mind them on as he is really good and puts his own legs through the sleeve holes.
He still jumps on counter tops and runs on his wheel with clothing but his energy levels does drop with clothing on. My friends girl is the same.

It fits perfectly and she can move just fine. She just looks sad when I put it on her almost as if it’s punishment lol she usually wants to sleep in my bed with me but when I put it on her she just went to her own little bed .

Hahah Aw I love that. Yea maybe I just need lighter fabric so she doesn’t feel constricted in any way. Thanks so much for the info!

My boy's personality goes pretty chill with any clothing on, so I usually reserve it only for vet visits. Or a multi-day power outage like we had in February!

Both of my Sphynx have been much more calm with clothes on. I use it to my advantage! I’m pretty sure that’s where someone got the idea to make a thunder shirt. Must be...

Start by letting him sleep naked with you then when you get up and yours is still kind of sleepy slap on his jumper while They are still in bed.. They soon realise that this is to retain the body heat. As there is nothing worse than getting out of a warm bed with mommy. And getting cold. Then as a treat take it off just before bed time they can not wait to snuggle up with you for warmth for the night.

They don’t move if they feel constricted and if they feel they might hurt themselves because of the coordination from the jumper.

Don’t use it if it’s not making her happy.

How funny!! My sphynx’s name is also Kiwi!! Lol. He’s about 2 years old and I discovered that putting shirts or sweaters on him helps calm him down from being so crazy and jumping around all over the place knocking stuff over! Lol. At first he hated it but now I think he likes it. He sits and lets me put his clothes on and then cuddles with me

Maybe it’s the same effect like ‚happy hoodies’(groomers put on dog’s /cats ears to calm them while blowdry ), or height wests for adhd kids . The ‚hugging‘ feel stimulates the vagus nerve, calming down body and mind
