Hello! I am new to Sphynxlair and am looking to breed my beautiful lady, how should I go about this? I am not interested in making money, I just want my girl to have a friend so I want to keep one.
Hello and welcome. I'm sure someone will chime in about breeding. Alls I know is that its a HUGE commitment and way harder than anyone is usually ready for. But if done correctly can be rewarding after a long hard journey.
Your girl is absolutely beautiful! And welcome to the best group on the Web! Please do a lot of research before you do breed your girl. Most reputable breeders will not allow their kings to be bred to an outside cat. There are health issues (HCM scanning, scrutinizing both cats' pedigrees for inbreeding and health issues) and all the emergency cash that you would need at hand if something goes wrong with the pregnancy, mother or kits. My breeder often has to suppliment feedings for tiny or sick kits. Losing kittens at birth or during the first few weeks of life happens way too frequently too. If you decide to go ahead with this, good luck to you and your pretty girl!
Here is a post from the past that might help. You will find that the health and welfare of the breed is the most important thing to many members on here and with reason.
Thank you all!! I have been doing a lot of research since I got her. I have her heritage back 5 generations and she has been tested for HCM every year of her little life. I don't want to put her through something where I could lose her, but I would like to spay her because during "her time of the month" she likes to urinate outside her box (i think that is when it is, I have been tracking when she doesn't use the litter box and its the same week every month). She never cries or presents her backside or does any of the signs she is in heat except tinkle outside her box. She is extremely vocal normally, and actually becomes more quite during that week... I worry about her health being unspayed though from everything I have read, the decisions go both ways on what is healthier. She only eats Blue Buffalo or on Bath Day I give her organic chicken as a reward for her "traumatizing baths", which she hates with fiery passion of a thousand hells!
