I apologize for not taking the time to seek my cat's medical issue. It has been a while since I have been here. Pinkie has a recent issue that I am very concerned about. I am at home most of the time and know my cats VERY WELL. Pinkie has lost some control on his right side. His leg are not working well. It is a small town and I am the only one with Sphynx cat. My vet is very seasoned and knows Pinkies background. He said "in these cats it can come and go". It could be his herpies, an embolism or something that has happened to his medulla. I have backtracked and do not see anything out of the ordinary that could have happened to Pinkie. He has. Been healthy and happy.....then blam.....lost partial function on the left side. It is not full blown, it is at every three or four steps he can not lift a leg. His back toes are now bruised from having to drag them on occasion. Any input from the community?

I don't know much about neurological issues but I sure do hope that it is nothing serious and that he gets better soon!

Pinkie is such a sweet cat and sleeps with me very night. One night Pinkie laid at my back like a spooning thing. He then gently combed my hair with his claws. He retracted his claws and caressed my cheek with his paw. After that he gently gave me a nose bump on the neck and a love bite. That is Pinkie. We are tight. It is true love.

Has HCM been ruled out? Loss of the rear leg/s is a sign of blood clotting, are they bruises on the toes or possible bluing due to poor circulation? Are the rear limbs cold to the touch?

I agree start with the heart. You can google videos of cats who have had strokes/saddle thrombosis to see if it similar. Do not settle for a vet saying this can happen from time to time etc like it is not a big deal. You need to know answers and have a game plan to make your baby's life as comfortable as possible.
Positive thoughts are sent.

@Candys My hugs to you and Pinkie! I don't know what Pinkie has but I wanted to share:

My Yoda cat had HCM and saddle thrombosis embolisms this caused rear paralysis...I could tell when she was about to have a clot...she would be sleepy a lot, then she would get up and shake her rear foot like she had litter stuck on it..
Then she would scream a guttural scream and come find me.. I rushed her to the vet..she survived and came home on a vert strict baby aspirin FATE treatment plan from the vet.

For two years she had the episodes.. She did not cry in pain every time. Most often she would be sleepy, tail twitch and shake her rear leg.. I would immediately give the baby aspirin and hold her in a blanket on my bed.. She would go limp , very cold, and shallow breathing, thready pulse, and then faint pulse. She would rest in my arms for 20 minutes wrapped in a blanket to treat for shock.. Then all of a sudden .. She would get up and go eat and run around like nothing happened..she had a slight slight limp only I could see on her rear foot..

I would definitely discuss HCM and FATE with your vet to rule it out..

Purrs n hugs to you and Pinkie! Please keep me posted with what the vet says..

Sending healing thoughts!

How long has this been going on for? Could it have been a stroke? I don't know much about the neurology of animals but one time I came home and my dog couldn't move his back legs. He had been having seizures recently so we thought he had either had a seizure or a stroke while we were gone. I put him on my bed so I could make sure he was alright overnight and in the middle of the night he started walking again. After that he still seemed to have a bit of a droop on one side of his face but otherwise he was completely fine. Here's a picture of him and you can see that one eye droops a bit. Sorry if this was not helpful!

The problem is the right front and the right rear legs are affected. He was walking funny and sometimes his paws would knuckle under. The vet thinks it is a problem with the medulla (brain). Pinkie got a steroid shot and is on antibiotics with steroids. This happened all of a sudden and I immediately took him to the vet. It is worse today. He can not walk at all. Now it is total paralysis on the right front and right rear legs. I have a call into the vet. An MRI would be the next step. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and words. I am really worried.

I too think this sounds like. Some sort of stroke, whether it's the entire set of back let's or one side of his body. I hope the vet can quickly diagnose him and get to the bottom of this and treat Pinky ASAP.

UPDATE! Took Pinky back to the vet. Blood work in normal range, blood pressure in all limbs normal, heart and lungs great. With everything ruled out, the vet is confident that Pinky's blood vessel between the left and right hemispheres had a spasm and stopped blood flow long enough to cause some nerve damage to his left hemisphere. The first 42 to 74 hours are the worst then the cat begins to slowly progress to normal. Will keep him on the steroids and help him get around. It may take awhile but he should have a full recovery. The recurrence is not likely to happen again in his lifetime. Oh my, I was so worried about my sweetie. Thank you to everyone's support.

OMG, we peed in the litter box. Even though it is 1:30 in the AM, I could dance a jig. He even used his right leg in a dragging fashion to try and cover the pee. When he was not looking I covered it and praised him. I put him on the bed and I went to the bathroom only to hear a thud. He was trying to get off the bed to go eat. Arg! I will stay up all night with him if that is what it takes.
