New addition...

We will be welcoming a new little boy into our home in a couple of weeks.

Valentine aka "kitty" is 5, and super friendly, but I am a little nervous about exposing her too quickly, and having her space invaded.

The breeder suggests keeping the lil guy separate for 2 weeks, prior to an intro to the family. This seems a little long to me...any suggestions?

I both babies to be happy and friends...

Any suggestions on intros for them?

Do you have other pets in your house? If not, then she probably doesnt need to be separated off at all unless she shows major signs of stress for more than 2 days.

If you do have other pets, then 2 weeks is up to you. We have one person who kept her cat separated off for 2 weeks and others that let them visit with pets the day they bring them home. Since your new baby isnt a kitten, I would probably keep her separated at least 3 days, and let her slowly get introduced. The less traumatic the introduction, the better.

As for keeping them separate, you should for at least 72 hours to make sure no illness shows up, you do not want to spread it.

That depends, I would keep them apart until you get him checkled out. Then take it from there. When we got Frank he got along with the dogs right away. Luci, we had to keep them apart unless we were with them, her and Frank fought all the time. It took time but now they are best friends.

Mine only stayed apart for one night. I think 2 weeks is very long. Congrats on your new addition!

We kept Gizzy apart for 2 weeks, but we had several cats to convince. I suppose part of it would depend on how scared she is and how laid back or not your other pets are. I would at least do it for a few days. Congratulations on the new baby!!

our Breeder told us at least 1 week but the second day the baby escaped and .... well we only locked him up at night or when we werent home, because the lil man didnt leave the ole man alone! And the ole man didnt want to play. WE did that for about a week .

You should always wait until you have had your vet check the new animal out. She could have something that might damage your other cats. Then once medically cleared, go slow and play it by ear.

Thanks to you all. Puck and Kitty are getting on fairly well. Kitty is not used to sharing her people, but we've all been extra sweet to Kitty, and she's coming around.

I'm glad you asked this question. It was going to be my next question we have 2 cavalier King Charles whom I'm less worried about introducing to the new baby as they love cats and cats love them! However, wilbur my Ragdoll is a little nervous but tolerant usually sleeps in my bed ( could be a problem as wanted to have sphynx baby sleep with us aswell so he doesn't freak out being away from his mum and brothers). We also have Molly whom is main boss but tolerant. Daisy, wishes she was boss and can be cantankerous when Molly wins her over. How would you go about these introductions and the sleeping situation with wilbur - shall I introduce wilbur same day so he doesn't feel pushed out of my bedroom? I'm taking the new kitty directly to the vets then to my house

Yikes. I'd let them feel each other out for a couple days. I put Puck in my closet, so that Kitty would have him I'm the room, but not in bed. That way the noises and smells were new but in the fav spot (in bed with mommy)
