On Monday, my furrless furrbaby will finally be within grasp... my question, what can I do to make him feel comfortable? I have a blanket I bought him that I have kept around so it has my smell which I plan on bringing... Along with a toy.

He is coming from Ontario to Alberta via live cargo so I don't know how stressed or something he may be, so opinions from people who have had babies shipped would be great!

I also have a dog that I will need to introduce him to... May help that my dog believes she is a cat, but we will see I guess..

I want to be certain he feels welcome!
Thanks in advance!

keep new kitty in its own room for the first few days. room and blanket swap so your dog and new kitty can get used to each others smell.

Do you have a long drive from the airport to home once you pick up? If you do' you might want to bring some clean blankets to swap out in the carrier. I had both mine shipped live cargo, both times with no issues! I brought them home and right into their room and then opened the crate. It's amazing how fast they come out to explore! As for the intro with the dog, I just let my kitty explore nod eventually she went over to sniff the dog on her terms, no issues at all.
Good luck, so very exciting!

@Tonbo where are you in AB? We are just west of Edmonton.

Mine weren't shipped, but I would make sure you have some of his brand of food ready when you get him. You can have a small portable litter box ready for him to use when you pick him up. Did the breeder give you all the specifics on what brands they use for food, litter, etc to make the transition easier?

So sorry guys, haven't been online... not because cat came home... He hasn't yet. So many troubles with the shipping and our breeder won't get up and do something... My dad is very close to getting his money back and trying to go local... Thank you all so much for the helpful comments

I'm so sorry. You must be so disappointed. If the breeder is being flaky, maybe it is meant to be. That said, I know what it's like to bond with your baby from just one picture. (Kind of like being 13 again and meditating on a teen idol pin-up!)

@Tonbo.. Awh.. These kitties grab our hearts and the right ones find us-

Realistically, perhaps because of the troubles it could be a red flag and worth your dad trying to get money back and going local or get a referral here for a reputable breeder who ships..

Many a reputable breeder are we'll versed in shipping , honest and organized and all goes very smooth-
Example : My Claire Bare adoptee originaly came from Russia where my breeder friend has an excellent working relationship , All HCM screened kitties , and many smooth kitty travel long distance over the years-
Point is there are legitimate reputable breeders that ship healthy kitties

Others can be scammers - using other peoples kitty. Pics, fake names etc- the internet is filled with fraud and they pray on our emotions-

I know- my man got my first sphynx kitty bday surprise(my avatar pic ^Yoda Cat^ ) for me from a nasty person who sold sick kitties and disappeared off the internet and planet-

I googled the supposed cattery name and found tons of complaints , alias, etc on my first sphynx lady-terrible terrible experience for me and my kitty who was very sick her whole short life and passed away at age 2.

*** All I can say is look for the red flags and move on if you must- go with your dads gut feeling-
You can ask for a referral here for someone to Private message you with a reputable breeder -

The right kitty will find you (((hugs))

Please keep us updated

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the breeder.
Dexter was shipped to me. When I picked him up at the airport, he was just sitting in his carrier looking at me. He wasn't crying or shaking or anything. As soon as we got to the car, I took him out and he napped in my lap for about a half hour. I wanted to get home, lol so I put him back in so I could drive. He just stared at me the whole drive. he had food and water from the breeder attahced to the cage for the trip. Got him home and we've been inseparable for the past 4 months. He just took to me right away. I sometimes say it's because I'm the one who rescued him from his little trip, LOL.
