Hi I found this forum browsing threw google and thought I would join because I recently became a mom to an elderly rescue Sphynx . I will give a short storey on how we can to be

Me and my mother were always interested in the Sphynx cat but never had seen one in real life before just on movies ect .
We were at a petstore a few years ago and seen to pink little kittens with sweaters on and fell inlove with these hairless kittens , we asked if we could hold one of the kittens and he told us no only serious parties only , well I thought how do we know were serious if we cant even hold the kitten ? anyways we asked how much they would cost approx he said 1500.00 and we thought that was crazy and we couldn't afford that much unfortunately .

About 3 weeks ago I was browsing a classifieds sight and seen an add " Free hairless cat " The add said .
Older female sphynx to give to a good home with or without kids and preferably with a fireplace .
Well I have a daughter she is only two months old and a fire place , I called to see if she was still avaliable and she was so I said I would pick her up the next morning !

So I showed my mother the add and said shes still avaliable and we can pick her up (I still live with my mother ) She was so excited she has been wanting one of these cats for a long time .

We go to the ladies house to pick her up she was curled up under a blanket with a sweater on .She was absolutely adorable she is already spayed and vaccinated she did have a broken fang and two scars she thought she would fit in perfectly and she does .
The women had only had her 2 weeks and said that was enough she couldn't take how demanding she was and was to high matience for her and her 3 year old daughter was to rough with the cat . Her first name was Glamour cat they changed it to Jade and now we have changed it to Cleo .

She fits in our home wonderfully she loves our two dogs the puppy bugs her a bit but she still wants to rub on her out other family cat is still alittle cranky but has gotten alot better .

I will post pictures soon :)

Welcome fellow Canadian!

Good for you for rescuing a kitty in need! From what part of Canada are you?
How old is your Cleo and did she come with registration papers? Or do you know from what breeder she was originally bought from?
I am glad you have her...but 2 weeks!!!!! How can a person buy a cat and then just decide it is too much work. Our 2 are just a pile of fun. Yes, you have to give a bath everyone in a while and clean their ears and nails, but apart from that they are no more work than any other cat, and so much less than a dog!

Immature, inconsiderate people who see something and think "Hey that looks like fun" and don't do their research first irritate me...ok, so I hope this hasn't offended one, I am not usually one to soapbox, but I am a little on the cranky side today.

I hope you find all the friendship and advice you need on this Forum. Welcome!

Another Canadian! We are picking up in numbers now :p Congrats on your first Sphynx! Emphasis on the word "first" as there will likely be a "second" in your future! Can't have just one!!

Welcome!!! I hope your Sphynx brings you many years of love and fun.
I'm so glad you adopted an older cat. They need good homes too.

Wow what an insane add!!!! Free cat if you have a fireplace?? That cat is SOO lucky to have found a good owner like yourself! Imagine the nutbars that could have ended up with her??

Nofuratu and I are also from Canada, NB....Although Ive also lived in ON for many years. Wherebouts are you?

So glad you were finally able to get a sphynx! congrats! She sound beautiful!

I noticed you said she has a broken fang??? That should be removed! Even though the cat may appear to be in no discomfort, a broken tooth is quite painful. When you take her to the vet for a check up, depending on her age she may need a cleaning, and that would be a good time to get the tooth pulled.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone :)

We are really happy we have Cleo in our life shes been such a gift .

I am in Northern Alberts (Grandeprairie)

Sorry as for her fang its not there it must have been removed awhile back -

The owners who had her previous to me didn't give awhole lot of information on her history she was a rescue cat her aunt had but had to give her up because her son had alergies they thought she would be okay to have since she doesn't have hair but found out her siliva was caused more of an alergy .So shes been to a few homes

She does have a tatoo - I would like to find her originally breeder so find some more history on her . But she did not come with any registery papers
