Thanks to both of you. Second night in and I guess you can observe their Hunter DNA in action. All day yesterday she slept and my wife was worried that she is struggling with the separation and now since about 4am she plays lol. Guess I am laughing because it is just the second night with little sleep.

dont hesitate to ask questions. all paws are family . always recommend a wellness check, some contracts require in a certain time frame.
please have vet mark charts NO KETAMINE anesthesia. it can have rebound effect on heart. my vet uses isoflurane gas inhalant for spays/neuters /surgeries.
looking forward to lots of pics and tales! Happy Cleo Gotcha!!!!
kitty proof home for life! they are cat dog monkey baby all in one for life. they get into everything. watch hot stove tops, check washers and dryers before turning on... they are heat seekers ... they are also constantly running under my feet, I make it a habit to look down . I trained mine like a dog to a meet n greet spot when opening doors. they are lighting fast.
Day 1 and 2 almost perfect. She settled in nicely, ate, slept, played. Peed and pooped mostly in the right place. Only concern was that she sounded a bit more congested as time passed, especially during the night.
Day 3 - Monday. She through up during the night, quite a lot for her small body - (800 grams; less than 2 pounds). She was lethargic in the morning and did not eat. We noticed her nose was blocked with dried snot! She seemed to overwork on her breathing. We saw this before with our chihuahua who died suddenly of pneumonia last September, so our emotions came back and we went immidiately to a vet.
No real diagnose, just go asap to the vet hospital. We went there and quick diagnose that she had a virus, not sure how strong and if the herpes thing or the other virus that is quite aggressive. They urged us to let her stay there, which brought up crappy memories but we felt it best to do so.
After a few hours we got good news that she was responding well to the inhalation and IV. She started to take food slowly. More recovery during the night. Blood work showed small infect but nothing yet too serious.
We were able to bring her home again and now we need to continue the good care at home. So far so good, although we remain anxious as she is so little.
She is fragile, tired but a trooper.
What a rollercoaster for our family after just three days, but I see that this could end up being more common than I thought, reading a bit though this forum. Thank you all for such a database of information.
Positive vibes are sent. We see they often stress going to new homes and it triggers a URI. 9 weeks old to go to their forever home is very young…it is recommended not until 12 weeks, so your baby’s immune system is still fragile. Glad your vet suggested keeping them and giving your baby the best care…kudos to you for listening and now watching them like a hawk. What meds did they prescribe? @Cricri
No medicine prescribed. Infection levels too low for antibiotics.
Our main worry is her food and water intake. She looks for cuddles. We built a little steam bath out of a plastic box and we give her 10 minutes every 2 hours. Breathing seems good, no visible congestion. Vet did say she is weak and we need to let her be. So it is tough too watch and be patient. She has picked up a few pieces of wet food since being home - once ran to her food place. My wife is just naturally very worried though and the loss of our dog, just looms in the memories.
You can try finger feeding baby food. Just look for one with NO onion and NO garlic…usually beef stew baby food is beef and water. Read the labels carefully. I had to do this once after one girl we had fallen after being spayed and she wouldn’t ear…it got us over the bump in the road. @Cricri please keep us updated.
Thanks everyone.
Things look quite positive. I built her a little steam room out of a plastic box. We did 10 min steam sessions every two hours. Second half of yesterday she picked up her eating as well, while sleeping a lot.
Purring started also like crazy which is a good sign I guess - first cat for us.
For food we switched to a super watery kind to give her fluids and she gobbled it down.
So overall quite happy, but stay vigilant for the next 2 weeks or so.
Now she has diarrhea . My guess is the watery food we gave her. She acts normal though other than discomfort, which seems obvious. She drank after, so not really lethargic like a few days ago. Will switch back to her normal wet food and dry food…
Thanks everyone. So we have ups and downs. The past 48 hours looked like improvement, she ate well and pooped normally. One thing we have not understood is that she does a small pee around her food area right after she stops eating, but then goes to her toilet.
This morning she had diarrhea twice again. My wife said she drank, but did not eat.
Cleo does sleep a lot, mostly on us somehow, or glued to us. She does not play, the doctor said we should take it easy, so we don’t provoke, but at the same time I do not feel her lethargic, just tired.
The only other thing besides diarrhea, is also that she “seems” to have lost about 15% of weight. That is on a human scale. My wife is really worried about this and so we probably go back to the vet.
I am not sure if I am worried yet or not. The last two days she ate regula, she does look skinny but was eating and drinking. Are we overthinking? One week in and it has been a rollercoaster… thank you for the support.
So we have bad news. Cleo is in intensive care. Low temperature, lost 20% body weight in the last week, dehydrated due to the diarrhea most likely. I am at a loss of words really.
First she had a cold like Symptome and we got through this fast. Yes we played with food and that at first explained the diarrhea. She ate great and also drank, which she didn’t do much when she first moved in.
Now it will be touch and go the next 3-4 days the vet says and she basically said that she might not make it. We are shattered and have so many questions about what we did not do right? It is especially tough on my wife!
Oh nooooo. I am so sorry to see this. I was hoping things were just going to get better. She is in the best p,ace right now. Keep us updated and know Lair Prayers are sent.
