Good morning all! After 15 years of waiting my new baby practically fell in my lap. I am so excited to welcome _____ (he's not yet named) to my family. He is 16 weeks old and beyond wonderful. I am a mother of two boys.. Jacob 13, and Ethan 10. I've been married to Dave for 12 years. I have 3 other cats and 1 dog. They welcomed "kitty" with open paws. I was floored there was no animosity. Lol. I have researched the breed thoroughly but I still have a few questions. :)

I'm wholeheartedly in love. I'm stuck on names. He acts like a puppy yet hasn't meowed, Instead he chirps! Hmmm. Is this normal? Next is cat food.. He was fed bottom barrel junk. Is purina one kitten good? Bath time is a baby wash, does he need moisturizers? His poop was huge, way bigger than my other same age kitten. What do you recommend that I use? Haha!! It's going to be hard to treat him like anything but an infant :). I'm a nervous new mom which is funny... I was up all night because he wanted to sleep on my tummy under all the covers, I was sure he was going to suffocate! He loves to roughhouse with Percy & I'm thinking oh my goodness he's going to get hurt!!! Any word of advice to ease my stresses? Thanks for welcoming us, as soon as I figure how to navigate the site I will post pictures. :)

Welcome to the family, Jenny--so glad to have you as part of this wonderful community of friends and the sweetest animals anywhere on Earth! As for names, I like weird ones, so am not always the greatest person to ask....but you mention he "chirps"--so what about Chirps or Chirpy? Tweeters? Tweety? Birdy? What does he look like? On a totally different slant, I love the name Grover or Ernie...I like noble names like Quixote or Ceasar...I love names that are from food--Zuchini, Romaine, Fig Newton, Cheesy...I like color names--Ebony, Turquoise, Eggplant. I like dinosaur names too (LOL) like T-Rex or whale names like Shamu or Beluga. Just think of a theme you like.....let something come out of your mouth that pleases your mouth to form it, pleasures your ear to hear it....and that your baby seems to like. (My God, I sound like a hippy nut! LOL)

There are better foods than Purina One, but it's not bad--I have used it myself many times--my cats actually prefer it to other things I've tried. And I have often used the kitten formula. Rule of thumb is to buy the best food you can afford and have good access to--it will pay off in the long run with lower vet bills.

Unless his skin is dry and flaky, he won't need a moisturizer. If he does, coconut oil before bathtime and then shampoo off works great.

He won't smother under the covers---they are heat seeking and love to burrow.

They are pretty hardy when they play--just use common sense judgment---if they are playing and the play gets too rough--he will squeal a warning to the other animal like they do with their littermates. This also works if he bites you in play--you make a sharp squeal noise--you want to stop that behavior right away.

Congratulations on finally getting that baby of your dreams...may you have many, many years of naked love together.
Hugs,
Susi and my gang of animal kids
