Hello everyone!! I am a newbie around here and just wanted to jump in and say hello!!
We brought our first little Sphynx baby home a little over three weeks ago and I can't believe how wonderful she is! She is AMAZING!! I can hold her, rub her wrinkly cheeks, and kiss her little bald head all day if I could!!
One bit of issue we have experienced is the dreaded poops...yuck!! Here's how it all went down....brought her home directly from being spayed & getting her vacines. Dispite being a bit loopy from the pain meds she was a purring girl from the get-go who couldn't be happier snuggled up with me. She was fed Royal Canin 34(?) with the breeder so we kept it up at home as well. First few days were pretty much uneventful....figured out where the litter box was and handled her business. Then about a week later I noticed she had a bit of loose-ish stool. Not really anything too horrible, but that it seemed to start normal and then end a bit mucousy and loose (sorry TMI!!). We had a follow up at the vet the next day so I figured I would just watch her and make sure she was drinking, etc. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary....still super playful, eating fine, drinking fine, etc. Vet did a fecal and said there was a lot of colostria (sp? I could be off with the name?) and its a bacteria that builds up in abundance due to stress. She said due to being removed from her home & mom, going to get spayed and off to a new home would be enough to cause it. They gave her Metrodonazile (again sp?) and said she should get better, but they would need to see her again if not. Started meds on a Friday and by Sunday I didn't see much change, but then Monday it was HORRIBLE!! She always made it to the box and wasn't going multiple times, but she shot it on the wall behind her, the poops no longer had any shape, but rather was a puddle in the box. Called the vet the next day and she asked that I bring in a fresh sample for her to look at. She said there was still a lot of the collostria (sp?) and to give it a bit more time and then also gave me an rx of ProPectalin to help with the diarreah. Its been a week now and I haven't seen much progress. Seems like one stool is better, but then she will have a runny one the next time around. We keep her upstairs in the master bedroom so she doesn't haven't access to any other foods, etc. I feel so bad for her because her little bottom is sore, but she has to be cleaned afterwards because she gets it on the back of her legs and sometimes her tail....and being the lover girl she wants to then hop right back up on my bed or on me. I just want her to get better and loose the runs! I have to sleep lightly so that when I hear her in the litter box at night I can wake up and wipe her down (she DOES NOT like this and I have some nice scratches to prove it) because she will not clean herself until she gets into my bed and gets comfy.
Sorry for the lengthy message, but I am a new Sphynx momma and need some guidance!!
