Well, I posted earlier today about being at the vet last night.....it was to pick up Othie. Her very best friend in the whole world is Beanie, my beagle. The other night, she was headbutting his face and rubbing against it, when I heard her make a not very pleasant noise....sort of a NYEHHH! And she jumped back....she had lost some weight, and I noticed she hadn't wanted her dry food for the last few days either, but hadn't thought much of it at the time. So it all began to make sense-- I called her up on my lap and looked into her mouth and her gums were inflamed.....and the back left molar looked like it had a bunch of calculus on it that appeared to extend below the gumline.....and her breath was nasty. I brought her immediately to the vet and also talked to him about another issue with her....I had bred her twice without result and she was humping the pillow and the other girls and anything else she came in contact with. I recognized this behavior as indicating she was most likely cystic (ovaries) keeping her in a continuous and miserable heat. So, Dr. Gary agreed to do an exploratory to make sure she was cystic before doing the spay and to give her a dental and an extraction if need be. He called me an hour and a half later and told me he had to do the spay as she was indeed cystic, but that the tooth cleaned up nicely and there didn't appear to be anything wrong with it beyond the build up of the calculus. He said the loss of weight was most likely from the cystic ovaries rather than the tooth...but we put her on antibiotics and she now has pristeen breath and pearly white teeth. And she is going to be way less miserable. She was my last intact girl, so another baby will be in the works--born in about 4 weeks. So there will be no pitter patter of little paws here for over a year. :( Won't be the same around here. But Othie has earned her retirement.....and then some. She has made a lot of people very, very happy. Please send her some love.
Hugs and headbutts,
Susi and Othie Marie

Aw, Susi. I'm so sorry to hear that. It is hard to spay such a good mom cat. But, she is alive and that is good. Wishing you both the best.

Susi, you have always taken "Mama Lady" pride in sharing what a great Mommy Othie is to her kittens. Your news is bitter sweet. It was great you saw the signs and trusted your gut something was up. Yay for no extraction being needed! Extra hugs and kisses sent her way tonight for happy healing.

Oh Miss Othie Marie, thank you for the nekkid babies you blessed the world's families with. Please overcome your surgery pain and complication free!!!
Susi my dear I send you a ton of hugs and Lily bug snuggles! Yes, it won't be the same without the pitter patter of bitty kitty paws around your house. No question about it. But maybe your feet will heal up???

Well, I am just so glad she will be alright. But, she had beautiful babies for you.
It won't be the same not seeing your new born babies and following them
until they are placed in their permanent homes.
But, I will be looking forward to seeing the next start of your new Queen.

Love and kisses sent to Miss Othie Marie! Watching your videos, it may take a whole year to heal your legs from all those babies using you as a tree!

Othie is sitting on my lap, all snuggly in a blanky. I read all your comments to her and she was just purring away! When I finished reading them to her, she reached her little paw up and touched my lips--which is Othie talk for "Do that some more, please." We appreciate all the love and assure everybody that Othie is comfortably resting and enjoying the being calm and extra mama time. What with being in heat for so long, it must feel good to just be calm and peaceful. Life is good, says Miss Othie Marie and she sends kisses to you all.

Patti, Othie isn't my slurper.....it is one of the things I love about her most. LOL Habibi is my slurper. Othie's a great girl--she doesn't do anything annoyingly obnoxious.

You know, some things are just too special to replicate too many times - the kittens she's had are like limited edition prints :) she may not be able to make more for the world now, but those that are out there are that much more special :) fortunately she has an unlimited supply of love for you for making her feel better.
