@Hairless Blessing , thank you for your thoughts! He is peeing about a dime size now and has never missed a beat playing running around eating drinking :) think we may have caught it early - I am always on pee poo patrol checking my babies- currently all four are on me napping !

Follow up recheck in 10 days! I may let him have a hall pass on his spa day bath tomorrow

I checked with Claire bares breeder I adopted her from- she has 13 kitties all on royal canin , royal canin dental mixed in and all get wet royal canin kitten pate - she has had no struvite crystals in her males- though they are not neutered like Yoda

Keeping paws n toes crossed here

Starsky is on Purina UR wet with no dry (don't know why the vet said no dry, even of the prescription kind). Fortunately he lives in his own area so I didn't have to worry about trying to switch everyone to it, especially since Ash is supposed to be on Hill's d/d. Starsky was getting the same dry food (grain free) that all the others were getting, yet he's the only one that we've had get the urinary blockage. He was getting a different wet, though, since he doesn't like raw. Good luck with Yoda and hope things 'come out' okay!

Yoda update : pee volume increasing a bit with no straining and less trips to the box- yah! Never peed anywhere or missed the box- mommas good boy even when not feeling good inside- hopeful caught early and recovery continues-

Downside- threw up royal canine SO dry food all over my bed - yuck - lots of washing king size stuff forever-
Batman tried the dry and threw it up all over the floor-
It is going back! Called royal canin about urinary SO dry food and vomiting-of course non reported - non really- have they read consumer affairs.com with pets on it for years and as recent as last week barfing, etc, with newly opened bags- company says no one has called them- yeah ok- I know folks get paid to write bad reviews but ..

So dry food going back- they want me to switch to Hills C/D dry food-

My thoughts are rather to exchange for more canned urinary food and get a pet fountain- keep Yoda on mostly canned prescription diet . All other kitties fine on lifes abundance, good solid poos too- vet said I can switch them all oversto the Urinary food - not- I am not rocking the Sphynx boat if they are fine. Feeding 5 kitties on urinary wet and dry from the vet seems excessive if the other 4 are fine- at $66 a bag and $46 a case - the. Ets office would bsnk and I don't want to change mess with the PH levels of the other 4 they are fine-

Going with my gut on this one - treating the one with the idiopathic cystitis with a canned prescription diet and rocking the boat with the others- and I still can't wrap my head around all the by products etc in prescription foods and their cost for it!

Recheck n 10 days - oh and he hates pill time

Have you heard of Apple Cider to treat urinary crystals (along with Yoda's food)? ACV mixed in the water bowl, or diluted in food might help. Its supposed to balance the urine and prevent the crystals from forming. Not sure if I can post links, but there is information online :)

@Banjo, funny you mention the ACV - I have braggs brand here and will be researching and asking vet- she is not a holistic vet and usually only wants the traditional brands she is contracted with in her office-

Great thought! Thank you!

Update: good news! Progress! Initial diagnosis idiopathic cystitis with some blood cells in urine drawn by cystiocyntesis - urine pH 7 and struvite crystals

13 day follow up after he refused every urinary c/d food wet or dry various brands- I could only get him to eat lifes abundance wet food - and he stole some of the same in dry food-

Today: urine pH 6.5 NO crystals ! And only slight blood cells in comparison :) yah

Now, I go hmmmmm ... He never would eat the urinary prescription c/d food to dissolve the crystals-

The only difference was. 1. antibiotics -amoxicillin pills I bought from the vet with torb/val suspension liquid
2. more of his canned lifes abundance basic instinct wet food I used to give as a treat-

The vet had me go home today with some more torb/val I bought and this time I requested the amoxicillin antibiotics liquid suspension be kindly called into my Publix pharmacy. It is free at Publix- -( walmart also does pet antibiotics no charge for pets- you will need to call and ask if they formulate suspension liquids for free too)

I think the vets office was surprised I knew Publix offers free pet antibiotics- every bit helps

Apparently Yoda talked up a storm at the vets and was quite the casanova with the ladies :) crawling on shoulders and head butting- :) I told him we cannot make this a habit to get out of spa bath time and turn into a flirt!

Hopefully he continues to progress and I will be continuing with his meds and wet food-

** He could care less about his new drinkwell Platinium pet fountain or the stainless "zen" fountain-

None of the cats like the fountains- they prefer mum changing their little bowls of water 3 xs a day from the water cooler :)

Struvite Crystals went away without C/D prescription food - I imagine if he would have ate it - we would have thought the food dissolved the crystals ... hmmm

Thank you for all the thoughts and continued paws crossed he stays struvite crystal free!

That's super news!!!! Give the fountain some time....leave it off and have them drink for it that way, then after they realize this is the only water supply, try turning it on.
