I have had a bad day and a half....when I got home yesterday I noticed Pearlie wasn't acting normally...just a bit off. But then later, I hear her making a strange sound....and looked over at her and saw her abdomen puff out on both sides several times like someone was inflating and deflating a balloon. The puffing out was followed by an enormous contraction that made her straighten into a very erect sitting position and seemed to go from her bottom to her rib cage. She cried. It happened again and again.....and was followed by a greenish cream colored vaginal discharge. Not a lot, but a few drops at a time. I sat up with her half the night, then met the vet techs as they opened the doors at 7 this morning.
By the morning, the contracting had stopped, but her little belly was pretty rigid. The vet finally arrived at 8 and Pearlie got examined. She was admitted with suspected pyo and slight dehydration. She got fluids, lab work to rule out other things, and an emergency spay later this morning. I was terrified.....even though she wasn't in as much distress this morning as she had been last night, I was still afraid.
Was incredibly relieved when the vet called me this afternoon and told me Pearlie had done really well on the surgery and was waking up. One horn of her uterus was grossly affected and was filled with pus. My poor little girl. She was still receiving antibiotics and pain meds and will be able to come home tomorrow if she eats. I have cried a million tears today for what I have lost.....no baby Pearlies --ever. But then I have also cried tears of thanksgiving that I still have the original model. My baby girl, sweet, playful and beautiful.
It hasn't been a good time around here for the last week or two.....praying that all the bad stuff is behind us now. The gang has been particularly loving. I guess they know their old mama lady is tired and needs some intense naked love tonight.
Then as the final assault on my psyche, yesterday I decided I was going to use some of my income tax refund to pay off my car early.....so I checked my online bank statement and saw that the refund hadn't been deposited yet. I shrugged and decided to just use my paycheck, figuring it would be here any time now. So, I called my tax lady yesterday afternoon and asked if the IRS was just slow this year and she realized she had inadvertently not even filed it. So she did it then. So I am thinking, "Hmmmm.....another ten days before it will get here......that certainly puts a cramp in my spring break style....but no biggie. " Now I also have to pay for Pearlie's surgery and hospitalization.......oh well. Good thing I wasn't planning on going anywhere anyway. I have enough money to pay for it, but won't be doing much else unless I dig into savings. LOL, just grateful I have some savings to dig into....there were lots of years that I wouldn't have been so lucky.
This has been a long pity party I have had for myself. I am finished now. Now I am going to put on a smile, hug my babies, celebrate the upcoming good health of my Pearlie and all the togetherness me and the Gang will be enjoying during my spring break. I am blessed.
Love to all of you,
Susi and the gang
