Starsky, our Maine Coon mix, became ill while I was in Arizona. Fortunately hubby - who is usually not very observant - noticed and took him to the vet. He had a blocked urethra and bloody urine in his bladder. His tests have improved, and his urine is now clear, but he is still not peeing on his own. He was at our vet since Wednesday, and is now at the emergency vet for the weekend. We'd like him to come home!

Starsky still is not peeing on his own. He is back at our regular vet where they're trying to determine if it is a small stone that keeps blocking it or if it's a narrowed urethra where he'd need a surgery that would essentially make him a girl. I'm waiting for the results now.

X-rays showed no sludge or stones. They flushed his bladder twice, put some fluid in and removed the catheter. The vet expressed the fluid left in his bladder and it came out at a good stream. Now we wait through the night for his bladder to fill and see if he goes on his own, or if it's still easy to express. If he goes on his own, we're great! If he doesn't & it has to be expressed: if it comes out well then he has an issue with bladder muscles and we can medicate; if it doesn't come out well then he's reblocked and he'll need perineal urethrostomy surgery which removes the male member and makes a larger urethra opening. Of course we're hoping, praying, and have everything crossed that he'll go on his own tonight.

He's not out of the surgery woods, but he his home. This morning the stream was just slightly diminished, so he opted to try a different antispasm medicine and check him through the day. The next expression showed a mixture of good stream and dribbles, but Starsky was actually going into the litter box to try on his own. So he was sent home to see if he could relax enough to go well on his own. In the morning we'll take him back for another evaluation and it'll be decided then if he'll have surgery.

So far he has made several trips to the litter box where he's left some dribbles. So we stand and watch him pee and check after each visit hoping we'll see more than a tiny spot.

Thank you for all the prayers!
