Poor Eli our great dane had a seizure this morning :(
Tom woke me up at about 4:15 and said that something is wrong I jumped out of bed and Eli had no use of his back legs it was very scary and sad. He also did poop and pee in his room, (he never does that)
and vomited. After a few hours he was walking better thank god. I took him to the vet at 10:30 and he confirmed that Eli had a seizure. I thought it could be wobblers syndrome so I am happy that it is not.
I hope it was a one time thing and this never happens again. I cried all morning thinking I was going to loose my big guy.
The vet said it could just happen once and never happen again, 50/50 chance.
At this point we do not know the cause, he said it could be caused by a poison or mold but being that the yard is covered in snow I don't see how that is possible.
So please send good thought our way! And please let this have been a one time thing.

Heather you and Tom created the magic of this site and because of that Lair Prayers were created and I have to think that all the good karma will go your way. Please let us know how he is feeling for the next couple of weeks. I know the worst part is watching and waiting and anticipating. Eli...is back to being happy and thinking all is good...so should you.

Lair Prayers do your magic...

Lair prayers sent to Eli! I know how scary this is, my dog had a few seizures. I found out it was due to the flea medicine I was putting on his skin once a month.

He is so normal now you would never know anything happened. I just keep reading other people situations with them and they are scary as heck. Please let this have been a freak one time thing. He is a giant baby! A compete lover that does not deserve anything like this!

I'm glad he has recovered, mimi my cats story is on here somewhere as she had a seizure shortly after her gotcha day, it was a one off and had been fine since but it doesn't stop you worrying in the early days

Poor guy! Did they run any tests? The same thing happened to my brothers lab, and it was quite an ordeal to go through... they thought that she had gotten into poison because of the levels of some of her functions on blood tests.

Lenore has them occasionally and it's pitiful to watch. There's nothing to do but hold them and cry and comfort them when they recover. I hope this was just an isolated incident.

My heart goes out to you the exact same thing happened to my 14 yr old collie in 2012, she had a major seizure (she'd had several little ones from the may but nothing too bad) she was more upset that shes done her toilet on the stairs i cuddled her for hours until i could take her to the vets where they but her to sleep saying it was proberbly a brain tumour because how i described it it wasnt epilepsy, she was our first family dog & we couldnt bare to see her in any more pain so we let her go, i really do feel for you & i hope & pray from the bottom of my heart Eli never has another seizure, as a dog lover myself i know how hard & heartbreaking it is to see this & i send all our love to you & your family xxxxx

They did blood work and it was all normal but just pointed to a seizure. We are just hopping it was one, any more and we will have to do more but for now he is perfect! I hope he stays this way.

Thank You! It is so hard! I was sobbing. He is such a big guy it makes it that much harder because I just wanted to pick him up when he could not walk and that is not a option.
