Poor Winston! Damn Vet!

Poor Winston!
Who knows how, but he got a deep gash on his left knee.
As soon as I saw it, we rushed to the emergency vet.
After 3 hours we finally got to go home, his wound cleaned and glued shut.
Got him home, gave him dinner, and when he came to cuddle 5 minutes later I realized his wound was still WIDE OPEN!!!
Back at the vet now, pissed I have to trust the people who couldn't do it right the first time to do it correctly now, and hoping they don't try and charge me another $238.
Needless to say, we'll be headed to his regular vet in the am.
More poor little man. Just when he thought it was over we had to start all over again.

Poor Winston feel better baby. Our 18-year-old cat dislocated his knee badly 9 years ago. The vet relocated it and splinted it. I took him home and he had the splint off and the dislocation back in 5 minutes! Like you, we took him back and this time they put a cast on it. Your vet should fix Winston and not charge a dime!!! Stay strong!

Thanks everyone.
I'm really upset. We're home now - they took Winston right back and I swear scrubbed his wound out and then stapled it x2 without any local anesthetic. You should've heard my boy scream. I was made to stay in the lobby so couldn't even intervene on his behalf.
Got him home and when I took off his turtleneck, I found his neck is covered in bruises/broken blood vessels from them scruffing him so hard.
I don't know what to do.
I feel so bad as I took him in for care and I feel like he was abused.
Any thoughts?
Have any of you with pinkies had your kits end up with bruising from anything similar?

That is completely unacceptable! They should have known he was going to squirm if they didn't use anesthetic! There is absolutely NO EXCUSE to have held him so hard that he bruised like that! And refusing to let you in the room? No way. They should have let you hold him to keep him calm rather than injuring him like that. If they were mad that you called them out on their shoddy work fixing him up the first time, they still shouldn't have taken it out on Winston.

You need to take pictures, file a complaint, call the newspaper, do whatever you have to do to keep them from doing that to anyone else's pet! That is animal cruelty at the hands of people who are there to help animals. Don't take him back there!

Just called them and pretty much lost my mind on the front desk receptionist (although I was clear with her that my anger was not directed at her but due to the service provided by others).

I told her I'll be calling back tomorrow to talk to their manager and that they can expect a call from Winston's primary vet as well. I also let her know I have pictures of the bruising.

Thankfully, although pissed about the cone, Winston seems to be okay. In between batting at the thing he comes to me, purrs, and asks for kisses.

My poor sweet, sweet boy.

I'm really glad he's ok. I honestly cried and was shaking from anger when I read what they had done to him! You really need to give these guys the "what for". If the manager doesn't gladly make amends for the despicable behavior of his staff, you need to threaten to call the local news or legal action or something. There's no doubt in my mind you'd win a case in court over that. Hopefully, you won't have to do anything even remotely that severe. Poor Winston! I can't even begin to imagine how painful and scary that must have been! Give him lots of snuggles and kisses from me!

That is just disgusting. I can't believe they would treat Winston like that...why would anyone give a cat staples without an anesthetic? And the bruising....horrible. I'm glad to hear he's doing okay though...get better quickly Winnie! I agree with mudpuddles...go to the news, yelp, flyers get the word out so they don't keep on like that.

That is disgusting I would take it full length I could if I was you for how many other animals suffer under that persons care cause believe me if he was able to hurt one animal he'd hurt any and all so I would do something to save another animal from hack g to go thru that!!

Oh no Winnie!!!! I'm so sorry K!! Please do what you must to get them to stop such disgusting treatment of the work they're upheld to do. Graddy is a pinkie and he doesn't bruise easily. I swear he is the clumsiest cat alive and he plays extremely rough with his dad but not once have I seen a bruise on him. Even when he plays with his cousins, Big hairy kitties he only gets the occasional scratch so for Winnie's bruises to be so evident and noticeable they must have been beyond disgusting with him. Please heal fast Winnie!! I hope your primary bet gives you loads of help on this. I'm so mad for you too Hugs to both of you!

Poor Winston! I feel so sad for your baby :-( they should not have been allowed to make you stay in the waiting room. Stuff like this really makes me angry! You trust them to look after your pets and they get treated like that.. Uhh!!

Poor Winston! I have had several pinkies throughout the years and NONE have ever received bruises even when they had to be restrained for their cardiac scans.
May the people responsible for Winnie's bruises and getting staples without anesthesia find that special place in Hell that I am always talking about--that place reserved for the monsters that abuse defenseless animals. In the meantime, do anything you can to discredit them. I would also demand my money back.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.....and tell Winnie we love him and want the bad people to get what's coming to them, but that mostly we just want him to get better soon.

That is absolutely terrible!

I agree with taking that feeling of helplessness and violation and using it to spread the word and maybe stop it from happening to some poor other kitty. I know that I check everything out on Yelp.

I have only ever seen one bruise on Darwin and that was after he smacked his foot HARD while jumping off the bed. I can't imagine how rough they would have had to be with Winston!

OMG!!! Poor Winston! Take lots of pictures and take him to your regular vet so they can help and be witness to what has happened! working in a vet hospital for 5+ years this should have NEVER happened!! They need to know that it’s not ok to do things like this and you should have never had to pay a bill. There is no need for such force and it they were incapable of helping him they should have never tried to in the first place!!

Three weeks ago when Hairry got his toe cut/smashed (and it had to be amputated) I took him to a vet (not our regular vet they were closed for the holiday) and they felt so bad for even giving him a shot because every little mark showed on his white little body.

Thank you, everyone.
It's been a hard 24 hours and I really appreciate the support of everyone here.
I took Winston in to his regular vet clinic this a.m. and although his preferred vet wasn't in another woman we really love and trust was available. She was disgusted at the marks on Winston and the story that accompanied them. She was almost as upset as I was, minus the crying, and said she can't even imagine how they were holding/scruffing him to cause such marks. Thankfully, she said that although the responsible parties are clearly incompetent and cruel, the staples look good and she agreed with the antibiotic therapy they prescribed.

I called the offending clinic again today and their office manager was out. I spoke at length to another receptionist who was kind and frankly horrified at the story I told her. She was incredibly apologetic and said she'd be sure the manager got back to me first thing in the morning. She said repeatedly, "I am so sorry. This is completely unacceptable." We'll see how thing go with the manager tomorrow.

Despite everything that has happened, Winston is still my crazy sweet and unbelievably loving little man. We napped this afternoon (given we both only slept a few hours last night) and he was curled up next to me and purring as per usual. He is not overly happy about his e-collar, but I tried him without it on and he was at the staples pulling them with his teeth within about 60 seconds (so back on the collar went). I've cleared my schedule for the week as my vet said she really did not want him left alone wearing the collar due to a danger of asphyxiation/hanging. Seeing as I can't get out of teaching, though, I've arranged to have a friend babysit him on Friday. My vet also offered to babysit as needed, and I've worked with my roommates to make our entry way a place I can put him for a short period of time without any concerns. Winston is such a spoiled - and deservedly so - little man.

He has to have the staples in until next Wednesday, and something tells me this is going to be a long week!
