with a very heavy heart... i found out yesterday that my beloved Bronx-e does in fact have Lymphoma.

really unsure what this means for his life expectancy. he's acting fine, just a little more "eh" then a week ago. but i'm sure he feels crappy. his neck is still badly swollen (lymphoids in his neck are super swollen-hense the ER visit sat night)

So we have an appointment at 230 and from there i'm sure we'll figure out what is the best option for bronx-e. i think what makes me sad the most is that, his symptoms of his cancer have been there from day 1. from the day he came to us at 4 months old, he's always had the issues that the dr considers "symptoms" for this cancer. i took him to the dr NUMEROUS times for those issues. Note: 2 major symptoms of Lymphoma Cancer is chronic diarrhea (or what the dr might consider IBD/IBS) and breathing problems (chronic URI's or hyperventalating-in his case). but i guess because who would have thought a 4 month old kitty would have this- we just never really looked for it.

So anyway... i'll update more when i find out what the dr says later today. but in the mean time... i worry- like all mommas do :(

I'm so sorry to hear about Bronx-e's lymphoma diagnosis. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. You mentioned that he has shown signs since he was 4 months old; how old is he now? I wish you luck today at the vet. Hopefully together you will come up with the right treatment plan for your boy. Love to you both.

Thank you Susi. i apperciate it. And yes, i love him so very much- which is now making me cry!! dang it!

i have decided to get a tattoo of my Bronx-e's front paw prints on my shoulder/collarbone area. it's where his paws rest every night while we sleep (usually his face resting on my cheek.

well... more update....
we just got home from the vet. and although it'd hard for a dr to tell you a time frame.... she's anticipating Bronx-e to only have 1-3 months :(
I've been crying for hours. Fiancee and i were thinking maybe 3-6 (hopeful thinking i guess).

Anyway- Dr said the cancer actually is the result of a poor immune system. that his IBD/IBS and chronic URI are part of his poor immune system. which i guess turned into this cancer. She had that the night we noticed the welling, was probably the onset of the cancer. Also, that bad rash he had a month ago, was probably the downfall of his immune system- seeing how a little heat rash turned into that HUGE rash. (sigh)

So we have 2 options: steroids and/or chemo. With just steroids he'd have 1-3 months, with chemo he'll have 6-9. Although, with the chemo he'll suffer through the pain and only to add just a few more months :( and how is that fair for us to make him suffer so he's around longer for us?? My fiancee and i have decided to keep him comfortable on the steroids. Once the cancer is "bad enough" the steroids will no longer work- we'll know then, that it's his time. Perhaps some may not agree with our decision.... such is life. I don't agree with putting him through more pain and suffering for my pure "happiness".

So... we will take it day by day. and pray every step of the way.

I am so sorry for you guys. What a horrible thing to have to face. The pawprint tattoo is a lovely tribute I think. I agree with your decision to choose quality of life over quantity. Our pets give us so much, giving him a dignified end is a lovely gift for him, but I know how hard it will be for you. ((hugs)) to you and sweet Bronx-e. He is lucky to have you as his Mommy.

You are his parents and you love him very much. The decision is yours. We know you love him and I don't think anyone will doubt that the decision you've made is the right one for
Bronx-e and your family. Giving him a pain free last few months seems like the kinder thing to do to me also.
Bless you all in this horrible time,
Susi and the gang

The people who would think that of you have not dealt with a terminal illness- either in humans or animals. Or if they did, they went the route of thinking that every minute with them is important- versus believing the quality of the time spent with a loved one is important. I agree with you and your Fiancee- the time you spend with him, happy and loved and still able to enjoy his time with you is what's important. Don't let any naysayers get you down.

My heart is broken for you though- I didn't expect this news- not at all :(

Chemo can have very, very harsh side effects. There is no shame in wanting to spare your baby from the added misery of diarrhea and vomitting. Instead spoil him rotten, treat him like a king and fill his days with love. Love to you all.

This just brings me to tears. I wish I could say something to make you somehow feel better but I know there is nothing that can be said to take the sadness away.

Big hugs to you klreese and I will keep you and your boy in my thoughts. I remember that your favorite place to kiss Bronx-e is right on his cheek or whisker pad. Please give him a kiss right there for me.

We are all here for you and support you what ever you decide to do.
