thank you thank you! he has been very good with the cone, doesn’t mind it much at all. im looking into ordering a soft cone on amazon but most of them are 20cm and his cone right now is 10cm so worried about it being too big

sad to say that the poor baby threw up again today, due to the antibiotics. called the vet and they told me to stop giving them to him until they prescribe something else on wednesday. sucks that the wet food he ate was just spat up

oh gosh, grim can't catch a break. we were snuggling all night and i woke up to him leaving my chest to go in the litter box and have diarrhea . i am super worried. he's also still been so so lethargic and has been sleeping about 22 hours of the day.

The diarrhea could be from all the fluids yesterday and not as much food going in his system as usual. That can make things a little runny.

I’d update the vet if you have concerns. Is he on pain pills as well?

on it, i called the vet after it happened and waiting for a call back when the doctor gets in. he has been on gabapentin (syringe pain meds) every day since the initial incident happened, which is definitely causing some lethargy

Yeah that’s probably part of it. They just want to keep him quiet so his body can heal. Glad you are staying in touch with your vet. Trust your gut.

grim is still refusing to eat he's losing weight. do you guys have any suggestions? I tried force feeding him some wet food and water from a syringe but i feel like that also was in part a reason for the diarrhea. ive tried wet food, dry food and treats.

@sphynxjinx awhh..give the vet office a call back and see what their suggestions and if you can talk with the vet to give an update and see what they would like to do .. always best to follow vets suggestions... ask too if a nutrical supplement or vitamin B12 shot would help to increase appetite..
check to make sure he is hydrated... is he drinking water?

ok so! i have been giving him a few syringes of water in his mouth today because he hasn’t been going anywhere near his bowls. a few minutes ago i tried microwaving his wet food and sprinkling nutritional yeast on it (read about that online, it smells like cheese so can stimulate appetite) and he ate a big spoonful of that. praying he eats some dry food soon so his stomach can process his food right.

I had a sick kitty years ago that would refuse to eat and she had lost weight so I tried everything imaginable. Here are some ideas you can try. Basically you want to find something that he will eat and never mind the quality of the food right now. I'm sure once he gets over the surgery he will go back to his old food but you just have to get over the hump.

1. Liverwurst from the deli counter - ask them to mince it or else slice it as thin as possible so it shreds.
2. Baby foods - chicken or turkey mostly.
3. Tuna fish packed in water
4. You can sprinkle crushed Temptations treats on his regular food; the smell is what attracts them.
5. Hill's urgent care canned food syringe fed - this is regular cat food that is thin enough to pass thru a syringe Hill's® Prescription Diet® a/d® Canine/Feline

Great advice from @Condo commando our one girl was very sick after a simple spat and she would not eat. We finger fed her anything she would eat...we did the baby food thing with good results...just be sure you get none with garlic or onion it it. We did simple beef with gravy. We also did smelly/wet cheap cat food which can be like candy to cats when they are use to higher quality foods lol. Sure you might get runny poop with a change, but for now it is about getting your baby to eat for hydration and nutrients.

While you're there ask them for a big syringe for food. It's always good to have a few different sizes in a kitty first aid kit.

To feed touch the tip to the side of his mouth until he parts his lips, then squeeze a little food in his mouth. Much more effective than a spoon.

Sorry to chime in so late! But I just wanted to inform you that Gabapentin isn’t actually a pain med. It works more for neuropathic pain, not surgical pain. If you think he is hurting you should ask for sone Tramadol or Onsior.

thank you for the heads up! I will mention that with the doctor tomorrow. honestly it’s hard to tell because he’s just been sleeping all day since saturday, but the few times he seemed to me to be in pain (shaking, tremor)
giving the gabapentin calmed him down
