I read on Facebook a horrible story about a cat suffocating in this style of bed:

image.jpg

"The pet bed in this photo is a DEATH TRAP.
Please share this with everyone you know who has a pet.
I purchased this egg-shaped pet bed online for my mom's cat. In spite of the flat bottom of the egg, during the night the egg flipped over onto it's face with the cat inside (he was a full-grown large cat). Because there were no air holes in the egg and the opening was flush to the floor the cat suffocated and died a horrible death within hours. We discovered his body the next morning. His face and paws were bloody from trying to escape. This bed is a death trap. If you have one - DRILL AIR HOLES in it immediately. Personally I would cut it in half and throw it away. We are traumatized."

It is a cute bed but please be careful if anyone has it!

That is....I can't even. If this has not been recalled, it should be. Who is the manufacturer?

For this particular bed it's tough as it's listed on ebay/Amazon and shipped from China. It doesn't say at least on the listing who the manufacturer is..

There are a lot of bad reviews left on Amazon about this so hopefully that will discourage others from buying it.

I don't know if other beds in this style (eg. The popular pei pod) could have the same problem but I would be careful.

I have always wanted that bed too! I guess theoretically you could just drill holes into it just in case but who would take that risk

I have one of this and just made a lil research about it. Turns out the one thats a true trap is a cheap copy of the real one manufactured in Brazil by Guisapet.
When you compare both pictures you can see the diference. The real one reminds you of an egg, but has a larger base and a bigger "hole".
Since I saw this post I've being testing it to see if my baby could get trapped in it and it is impossible to make the bed roll over in a way that the "entrance" will be facing the floor.
I'd literally die if something happened to my Franguinha because I got her something that wad unsafe so Im deeply sorry for those who is facing this situation right now. If you own a fake guisapet bed (you can check it here www.guisapet.com.br ) just get rid of it right away!

Hello this is information directly from pEi Pod re their beds:-

ATTENTION! Please note that the pEi Pod pet bed is safe because it has an 4mm air hole. The DEATH TRAP pet bed is a bad duplicate and should be refused from any customer. These two paws are the indicator for the duplicate. Sometimes it's better to purchase original stuff.

Hope this quells some fears:)

What a sad story. I have a bed in a similar style but mine is 100% felted wool. Super cozy and no risk of suffocation.

my sis bought it for me I think from etsy. It is a good alternative. Super easy to wash and it looks good.
