Hi,

I have one sphynx mail, he is almost 7 months old. When I brought him home in March he was constantly sneezing and very congested. I never had problems with his eyes. My vet never said he had herpes but she treated him with an antiviral, and an antibiotic (incase of secondary infection) and he has been great. For the past 2 months no symptoms at all/ Breathing is perfect and no sneezing. My family and I would love to purchase another but I am afraid that if he does have the herpes virus the new one would surely get it! (right now my kitty is drinking sour cream leftover from my chipolte dinner!) Do all sphynx cats eat everything?????? Back to the subject. Should I not get another one?

Is he still taking medication? You should ask your vet :)

I did read somewhere here that they can really eat!

YES YES YES!! Get another one, though I am saying that with my obssesive need for another in mind. If your kitty has had his meds and seems better. I think it's best to check with the vet first but I don't see why there'd be a problem. I'm sure he'd love some feline company

It could have also been a URI from the stress of moving. I'd check to see if the vet thought it was herpes. But even if it was, that doesn't mean it'd always be bad. Each cat has different levels of outbreaks and different stressers to cause one. L-lysine can help reduce the symptoms. Me? I'd get another!

If your boy has been in the clear for 2 months you are fine to get another. Our male came to us unexpectedly with herpes also. He had it bad so went through many rounds of treatment. After he was about 2 months in the clear we brought home a 3 month old female. She has never gotten sick. Just last month we adopted another lol. I was told by my vet that if Spartacus started showing signs of having an outbreak to try and make sure the others dont eat from his food bowl but thats about it. From my understanding most cats have herpes just not all of them have issues with it. Good luck with your search for a new baby :)

I agree with everyone else. Talk to your vet and find out for sure what the cat had, or visit another vet for a second opinion. If the kit is ok then for sure get another

My Cat has herpes and she came to me with it she had a bad case she has very little vision in one eye but the other is better.Anyways what i want to tell you is i have 4 sphynx and she is the only one who has issues with it. The specialist told me that 95% of all cat have it but some will go their whole life and never show any signs of it when other will show signs of it.
Did your vet put her on Lysine because the specialist put my cat on it she takes 1000 mg a day it help keep them from getting out breaks she will be on it for life.
i give lysine to all my cats it will not hurt her to give it to her i would suggest that you do . You can also ask your vet about it . I am happy your baby is doing well . But do not rule out that it was URI they have some of the same signs as herpes.
Talk to your vet about getting another cat and go from there .
I wish you the best .

Absolutely you should get another, especially if you have no other pets. I do agree with others that you should check with the vet if you have any concerns about health issues before proceeding. Good luck and keep us posted.
