Welcome to sphnxlair, and congrats on your new addition. If you could post some pictures of the skin it could help us get a better idea of what you are dealing with.
Everyone has their food favorites so keep that in mind when making your choice. Also keep in mind that if he has ben eating Iams for 14 years changing now could be tricky and would have to be done very slow. We feed Science diet and love it with no problems ever.
Hope to get the rash cleared up.

Hi, Thank you for the warm welcome. Here is the best picture I could get for now. Sophie is quite camera shy.
I picked up some Blue Buffalo Wilderness food (she likes it!), got some ceramic dishes for food and water, an tossed the plastic food dispenser that her former owner gave me. Thanks for all the tips. I'll keep you all posted on how she's doing.

My 3 year old has a bad rash that started a week ago. Four days before the rash started he got loose in the garage for a couple of hours before we found him and when we did he was covered in spider webs and sitting on some grains of ant poison. I couldn't wash him right away as I was already two hours late for work so we did when we got home.

Four days late the rash showed up. Took him to the vet and got antibiotic shot and prednisone to take home (he is four days into the dose). He is still itching and scratching as soon as we remove his collar and is listless and sleeping most of the time with the collar on which is very unlike him.

So far we have:
Switched from Meow Mix Indoor Formula to Natural Balance Green Pea and Duck
Stopped all table scraps and treats
Tried oatmeal baths every day for the first three days
Started Malaseb shampoo (first time yesterday, will try three times a week)
Put collar on whenever he is itching or scratching at night (we can't leave it on during the day or he won't get in his litter box)
Spoiled him to death lol...

Possible allergens???
Old Meow Mix food/and or Greenies treats, table scraps
Switched detergent (same brand but this variety has Oxyclean)
Spider webs and/or ant poison

Any ideas or has anyone been through something similar? Any help would be appreciated. We're going back to the vet on Saturday.

I think my cat has the same thing.. he's 3months old and keeps breaking out in lumps and bumps all over his body.. and he won't stop licking them, which than causes them to bleed and scab. he's been to the vet serval times, has had a dermetogists test him and it came back negative.. apparently he's not allergic to anything.. they gave me antibiotics and creams.. they cleared up but came back again within a week.. the vets don't no what it is.. we're tried changing food, kitty litter and everything. but nothing has helped. I feel so bad for him. does anyone know why this is happening..? I know I'm not the only one who has a baby with this.
