✓ Raw Diet - Week 1

Hi all,

We've officially started week 2 of Severin's raw diet (BiTR route) and so far it's going really well! Luckily, we had no issues with transitioning him away from the kibble and only mixed in the remaining wet food tin we had to avoid wasting it.

I've got a couple of questions for the raw diet folks:

• Does anyone's cat prefer their raw food chilled as opposed to room temp?
• In the last day and a half, Severin has only pooped once - is this normal? He is peeing a lot more, which is ok from what I've read on here and other sites.

Max and Min tend to prefer their raw warmed up a bit (I add water from the kettle after it's heated). They also like it watered down! ha ha.

It might take a while to still adjust. Max and Min usually poop twice a day.But they also get fed 95 g each, three times a day. How much is Severin getting?

Yes, lots more pee. So much pee! hahahaha. Peeing is good.

Mine pees once daily in the afternoon like clockwork. She pees twice daily.

Ellie prefers her food warm or room temperature

Severin's portions have been fluctuating between 3/4 cup to 1 cup. The first week we had him on chicken and this week it's pork - both lean from a trusted local butcher. It's odd. He liked the chicken warmed up coming out of the fridge, but the pork he prefers to eat chilled...

I guess it depends on a cat, my Silvio poops once a day and it's smaller amounts of poop while Joshira poops once every 2-3 days and the poo is bigger. They pee frequently and that's good. About your other question, it just crossed my mind yesterday when my boyfriend almost cooked their food - we take it out of the fridge then put it in warm water (it's in a bag) to warm it up a bit. BUT, he put it in really hot water and the meat was semi cooked lol and really warm so when it cooled down a bit, I offered it to the cats. Since it was still quite warm, I observed - Silvio ate his portion, Joshira wouldn't touch it, but returned to it later when it was cold....yet, it was still room temp so I don't know really about your cat, maybe he likes it chilled? Even though I suppose it's easier for them to eat when it's room temp.

@Xandria wow, now I have a feeling my cats are being starved XD Mine eat around 70g twice a day...never ask for more..sometimes they don't even finish these 70g. As a matter of fact they lost interest in raw recently so I do all kinds of stuff to make them eat it -.- The weather is hotter so maybe that's one of the reasons...when it was colder they ate around 80-90g per portion.

Pooping every other day or even up to every two or three days is normal on raw, less waste so less poop. Depends on the cat and how much they eat how much exactly but no need to worry unless it's been more than 3 days, then they might be constipated. Lots of pee is normal and good also, means they're well hydrated.

They have different preferences for temperature, shape (big chunks, small chunks, ground) all of mine hate ground for whatever reason, how much water is in the food (some like it soupy, some hate extra water) etc.. I've heard some even like it still frozen, basically cats are all picky little brats.

I'm currently trying to reduce from them eating around 400g per day each.. and of course they act like they're dying of starvation. I always wondered why everyone's sphynxes were so food obsessed/trying to eat everything but then I realized I was feeding them a ridiculous amount (not chubby cause getting raw fed but Xandria had a temporary kidney problem from letting them pork out as much as they wanted on raw so trying to avoid that) and now when they get 50-90g per meal 3 or 4 times a day of course they're obsessed with everything that resembles food and go crazy at mealtimes like all the other always hungry sphynxes

Yours aren't being starved, around 150g per day is pretty normal Xandria's and mine are just spoiled piglets. I think it's harder once they get used to eating however much they want even though they don't need anywhere near that much.

Peeing more is good. It can mean that he's getting the moisture from his diet that he wasn't getting before. You just have to play around with temps. Most cats prefer food at the temps of a fresh kill (100 something degrees). However, each cat can be different with different opinions on temps.

ok I do know that sphynxes need to eat more because of their body temp, but I guess that refers to winter time
