raw food advice

I have 5 sphynx cats and they have all suffered from runny poos and one of my cats had constant dirhea as he had giardia, anyway been on raw 2nd day today and it has just stopped and the poos in my other cats seems so much firmer

anyway my question is i have one cat that vomits and allergic to quite a lot of food, but he seems fine with the raw, but in the night i hear him being sick and when i get up its just bile, i used to free feed them biscuits to graze on and i read that bile in cats is a sign they are hungry, i am feeding them morning afternoon and evening raw food, but i feel i should leave out biscuits as i read that sphynxs should have biscuits down all day, but if i leave biscuits out all night , how can i feed them in the morning as i wont know when they last had there bicuit graze

im so new to this, i have it prepared and order it that way as i was to scared to do it myself case i made any mistakes preparing it

Hope someone on here can give you some advice, im going through the same struggle. We tried raw and made 2 of mine sick in different ways good luck and hope it works out for you. I know how stressfull it can be.

Some cats need to get used to raw before they will take it and keep it down. Mine used to vomit when we added beef--so first of all, what kind of meat is going into it? Are there also bones or calcium powder? Is the correct ratio of muscle meat to organ meat to bone being done properly? Is there added taurine to make sure your cat is getting enough? (No worry about overdosing--they pee out the excess if there is any--but they MUST have enough.) Some meats are richer than others and require a "more experienced with raw" tummy to digest--duck, goose, beef, are all pretty rich.
Don't give up because it made them vomit--the benefits are so intensely good--let them become accustomed--give it a fair shot.

Raw newbies are always positive their cats can't survive without kibble (biscuits), but if you are feeding them both--that in itself will cause vomiting. If you feel they have to have kibble (they don't) you can switch to timed scheduled feedings. Depending upon your schedule, choose either the first feeding, before you go to work--and only feed a limited amount. That way there would be time to digest it before the raw feeding. Better yet, do the raw feedings throughout the day and then for the last feeding, put a controlled amount out for the last feeding--but pick it up before you go to bed--that way it could digest overnight.

Finally, how much are you feeding at a time? Maybe your cat is hungry because you aren't feeding enough. Try upping the amount you feed at a time while monitoring the weight of the kitty. I always let my cats eat as much as they wanted of the raw--when they walked away, I picked up the rest and put it back in the refrigerator.

I heard from another owner yesterday who was singing the praises of a new canned food she found with no grain, fruit, veggies, eggs,or by-products. It's 98% meat--all 100% human grade and quality meats--and sells for $28.56 a case at Whole Pets Natural Pet Food and Supplies. The brand name of the food is Hounds and Gatos--they have cans with a single protein source (so helpful with cats with allergies) they have Pheasant, Chicken, Salmon, Beef or Rabbit. Sounds like a GREAT alternative to raw for those that can't manage it. And that is an exceptionally good price for rabbit. The store site my friend sent me to was in Colorado, so the shipping was cost prohibitve with the number of cans I would need to buy, but I am going to google it to see if I can get it from someplace closer to reduce shipping costs or convince one of the stores near me to carry it.
Check it out! If anybody tries it, let me know how it works--would be anxious to know if it helps stop the loose stools as well as raw. It is more expensive than the crappier foods, but supposedly your cat will eat less because of the high meat content.

Hey Susi we tried the Natures variety. Scarlett broke out in a rash head to toe worst under her chin a few hours after eating it. Sparti slung poo all over the place in the middle of the night after it We have them all 3 on Merrick before grain chicken dry food its the only one they will all eat and doesnt make them sick and I heard its a good dry food. The girls really dont care about wet food but Sparti its a must. We took all wet away from them 3 days ago because his poor tummy was so messed up and Im still trying to get it right. He is not happy. I would love to be able to give them raw but I need to find 1 thing they can all 3 have its just to hard to seperate.

well at the minute i just been feeding 3 times a day raw its chicken with beef and its prepared i got it frozen and delivered to me, i just feel each cat bowl up with it and then take away what they dont eat in 30mins as instructed on here, so morning 8am, lunch 2pm and teatime about 6-pm, i dont know if that is to little or too much,
my cat that vomits its not sick its like a yellowy bile liquid, which i read on interent is cause he is still hungry, so you say before i go to bed give them a handful of biscuits each as i had my delivery of hairball biscuits afternoon x

If you have the last raw feeding at 60--could you give it at 50 instead? Then you could try giving them the biscuits at 110--if I remember correctly, the digestion time is 6 hours for the raw--longer on the kibble, so that would give all night to digest the kibble. The beef might be what is making him vomit. You said you have it made up and delivered to you frozen. Do you know you are getting the right ratio of bone to muscle to organ? And taurine? The correct ratio is extremely important. Please check that you are giving a good balanced food.

@ SpartisMommy--try a more novel protein--like rabbit.

hi this is what i have copied from the website, i am hoping this tells you more then it tells me, i am finding this so confusing but having good results so far, but they always seem hungry so wondering if i am starving them, the only other flavour they do is chicken and lamb and i know when i give my cat that is being sick now lamb biscuits that makes him voilently sick so worried about trying that or would that be different
