My cats have been on a 100% raw food diet for about 3 days now. They were on a transition to raw until Friday then made the switch completely. I have a couple questions.

I know the litterbox waste will be less and a different texture. How long do they normally go between pooping? I know every cat will be different but whats your experience on raw? Is there a point where i should be worried they have not gone poop yet?

My other question was water. With the homemade raw they are getting more moisture then they did even on wet food i believe. They will be drinking less water right? They have been peeing fine so i assume they are getting the moisture they need but they are not drinking as much.

I am just a worry wart and want to make sure my homemade raw is really good for them because of all the bad things i have heard about unbalanced raw diets. I am using the recipe on cat nutrition.org with the 20% bone removed before grind (for thighs), chunks of meat and 2 cups of water as well as the meat, organs and supplemnts. I am waiting for some rabbit and turkey meat to come in to make them as well but so far i have only made it with chicken thighs.

Thanks :)

Regarding pooping, I think my two poop once a day. It could also be normal for every other day, or every 2-3 days. They pee A LOT.

The poop will be harder to notice as it does not smell and is in smaller 'nuggets' It should be firm and odorless a mixture of light/dark brown.

I never see my cats drink any more, but I still have a fountain there in case they want to. If they ever vomit they use the water fountain after to get the moisture back.

Sounds like your mixture is good. :) You should start seeing the benefits of a raw diet soon!

Mine are both on raw, and poop once a day. They drink about a cup of water between the 2 of them every day as well.

Thanks everyone. Mine hasn't gone poop yet so I'm thinking i might need to add something to help that for a bit. They were on raw but it was a store brand using eggshell. The real bone might be messing them up. :)

Oliver tends to poop twice a day. Beats the 4x a day from the past. Truly it does not smell even a fraction as bad as it used to! It is firm and as someone else said smaller little " nuggets". I'm thinking he is utilizing more of the raw food so less waste. He does not noticeably drink much, but definitely still pees a good volume. I do add water to his raw food. I don't make my own but buy frozen, thaw and add a tiny bit of warm water to it, just to make sure he gets enough. Can't believe what a difference in how is energy and digestion!
