This morning, I received a text from a friend with this good news: LeVar Burton Is Using Kickstarter to Bring Back Reading Rainbow. "That great swooshing sound you just heard was the entire Internet opening its wallets simultaneously."

I hope this isn't too spammy, and I sincerely apologize if it is, but as someone who grew up with this AND Star Trek: The Next Generation (relevant because both Captain Picard and Sir Patrick Stewart are such literary buffs; and because Geordi LaForge), I just had to share.

I too remember the song. I was awfully young when this was finishing up, and only remember my sister being engrossed in the show but I found the tune catchy.

With 74,035 backers, $3,323,126 of the $1 million goal has been pledged. We have 29 days to reach the new stretch goal of $5 million.

I'm just a little excited about all of this. They don't call it a stretch goal for nothing.

I loved Reading Rainbow and have donated and hope that it reaches the new goal! I'm sure it will. Lol pretty sure 29 days will be plenty of time.

I hope that it will be around when I have children.

This last stretch has been pretty eventful.

This may have been a reaction to Seth MacFarlane's dollar for dollar (up to $1million) match. I really don't like his work, but I appreciate his respect for this project.

People are gushing with appreciation, so I hope they reconsider their disdain for Penny Arcade donating their art skills to a Reading Rainbow calendar. PA has said some rather insensitive things in the past, but is MacFarlane really such a saint? Just sayin. The masses seem very forgiving where a lot of money is involved.
