I really need to find a vet that knows about sphynx.

I have not, I heard Dr butchko knows a lot about sphynx. So I think I'm going to check him out. I'm scared to take my baby to just any vet incase they don't know anything about how special their breed is.

I feel it's important to know as much as you can and educate your vet.

Some important things to always know and have your vet be on the same page with you:

1-NO KETAMINE anesthesia. Ask for ISO, it's a safe gas to use for surgery.

2-After surgery, always place a sphynx on a heating pad.

3-Clavamox antibiotic usually won't cure an URI. There are much better antibiotics that will do the trick without a repeat course. Yet, Clavamox seems to do well with a UTI. Always keep that in mind and inform your vet.

4-Convenia injection is wonderful for treating bacterial skin problems.

5-If you got your sphynx from a breeder, in your contract, there may be instructions as to what vaccines not to ever give your sphynx.

6-When getting a rabies vaccine, always ask that they not give a live rabies vaccine. It sometimes causes lumps under the skin at injection site.

7-Try to have the vet always give vaccines by a rear leg. It can save your cat's life one day IF there is ever a cancerous reaction at repeated injection sites elsewhere on their body.

If your vet is open to learning and doesn't get insulted by your suggestions, then stick with that vet. If your vet has a big head and doesn't like to be told things, move on and find another vet.

@Tricia Astley it can be difficult to find a vet that is very knowledgeable about the sphynx breed. I'm happy that my information is extremely helpful to you. We all share your wishes about wanting only the best for our babies.
