Hi everyone good news. Rupert's corona virus test came back negative! It is very unlikely given this result that he has FIP. I am so relieved. We still don't know what is wrong but at least it isn't that. Boy is my breeder relieved too. He looks a lot better since the fluids and he is eating and pooping fairly normally. He still isn't playful but my vet isn't surprised by that. I will take him for a check up on Sunday. Until then I'll just keep him fed and loved and give him his antibiotics.

Hi everyone. I am pleased to say that Rupert is doing better. We had our checkup today. The vet did an X-ray because his little belly was causing him quite a bit of discomfort and we discovered that he was very constipated. So Rupert got an enema. Yay poop! So hopefully that will make him feel better. We also got him a whole case of the high calorie food that Frida says should really be her regular diet. So we will feed him that until he is back up to a regular weight. The vet will call tomorrow to check up on him. I think she will be pleased with his poogress. So I guess we will never know for sure what was the problem but as long as he is on the mend that is all I care about.

So I finally know what has been going on with Rupert. Turns out he ate thread. He started to pass it yesterday morning. Most likely it is the cause of all the problems. I can't even imagine where he picked it up. I haven't done any sewing since before he came home and have vacuumed numerous times. But if anyone is going to find a random piece of thread lying around it will be a kitten. My vet says as long as it is coming out and he is eating normally he should be fine. I have a laxative to make the journey easier for him and I will continue to monitor him to make sure he doesn't go backwards. Please pray with me that he passes the thread without incident.

Wow! Definitely hope all passes well! Gizzy and Katie both seem to have a penchant for eating string like objects, which as you say, kittens have a knack of finding!

Well glad to hear I'm not the only one, but I hope it isn't a habit. We had a family friend who's dog had to have surgery 4 times because he was constantly eating weird things.I have never had a cat eat string before. I have heard of the danger but it never occurred to me that he would have done this. I'm home a lot and feel like I keep a pretty good watch over him.

I was shocked the first time I saw Giz with carpet coming out of his mouth. Not something I thought they'd want to eat, but after getting about a foot and a half of unraveled carpet out of him, we replaced the carpet on the cat tree with sisal. Then he had a second tail of Easter grass. Was I glad that had come out okay. Now no Easter grass in the baskets and no Christmas tinsel - and no curly ribbon on gifts. I even had thrown a piece of ribbon away in the trash and turned around a few minutes later to find that one of the cats had pulled it out of the trash and Giz and Katie were now eating it ala Lady and the Tramp! :wideyed: So don't feel bad if you think it's safe but they've still gotten into something. (Now no more ribbon in an open trash can!) Oh, and watch out for rubber bands, too!

Oh my, what a little naughty! Hope all passes without problems. Almost fainted when I had to pull a stick out of my dogs butt once!

So thought I would update everyone. Rupert passed the last of the thread yesterday afternoon. Yes it took that long. The string was probably about a foot and a half long. It is hard to tell because I only saw about an inch at a time. It was super long to be inside my tiny lil guy. Only now that the thread is out is he starting to gain weight. He weighed 0.68 kilograms for the entirety of the thread trimming period. But this morning he weighed 0.706 kilograms! still way too tiny for his age but I can see him put on the weight and I'm so happy to be done with the trimming. His appetite has almost doubled now the thread is gone!
